Challenge Climb Difficulty: Am I missing something?
So I'm on CC7, and it just doesn't seem possible... the scaling of the enemies is positively insane. I thought I was having a good run up to the first store, only to go into the next fight and see the enemies had 3x my HP total.

I'd assume this was just "a steep challenge", but there are 8 more levels above this; I simply don't see how that can be possible.

So I ask: Am I missing something?

All the unlocks seem to be horizontal progression, is there some form of vertical progression I am somehow overlooking?
Like sheer numerical disadvantage makes me question if I'm really supposed to be overcoming this with strategy or if I've overlooked something.

I'd really like to at least clear CC7 so I can use Into the Void in custom.

The early fights can definitely be capricious on higher difficulties. If the AI rolls well on items then a battle can pretty much be an auto-loss.
Fortunately the game starts you with lots of health, so a single awkward battle won't stop you from winning the run. Your goal early should be to not lose literally all your health and get strong for the first boss.

Every decision becomes important, I've found that being curse free is essential and having a character with the extra heart buff (roll custom characters) helps a lot. Being -1 or -2 curse is actually best, in case you have to reject a devils deal.

Good luck!
Skill and game knowledge problems.

I'm new to this game, though I find it exceptionally difficult.

If you find the game difficult I recommend playing some games of multiplayer first.
You will encounter human composed armies of increasing efficacy.
Copy (parts of) them and find out what and how you like to play.

The key parts to look out for are:

1 army composition (what bonus works good for what unit)
2 army equipment (what combination of items work well on what unit)
3 army positioning (enemy units tend to attack and move to the closest available target, set up your army so you can avoid enemy damage and maximize your own)

Thanks, appreciate the info, will give it a go, normally good in strategy games, though the PC tends to have a substantial advantage, even on vanilla.
