Not random, all the islands are the same in every world. You could try making one in the island creator. Then you could make one that suits your exact tastes. It can be tricky to find the perfect island.

I just take my Emerald Isle everywhere. I agree that it's difficult to find a good-sized island in Fallen Heights. They're all too small or too big.
