Like, bombs suddenly become basically mandatory even for the trash mobs, staff becomes almost unused for damage except charged heavy strike. You'll figure out your own way, but the point is to unlearn what you used before.
This was actually the intention from the devs for the Master difficulty, to make it as challenging like typical Souls games :)
I mastered that difficulty, on normal NG (which is actually harder to begin with) and on NG+ (by tactically skipping the new boss flame phases). It is doable, because every boss and boss phase has its unique weakspots and fight patterns. Just find and abuse them, train and learn the attacks of the boss, and act accordingly with a cool head and use free midair slowmo bow attack to give you some planning and breathing time in between while you aim for the weakspots. This way it is possible to tear them down one by one, with some luck and a lot of persistance.
Yes, it is very very difficult, and I was indeed on the brink of giving up myself. But I always saw a glimse of a chance to defeat the boss, which is more than you get in other games, so it never felt pointless or unfair to me. I kept going... and prevailed.
If you are not up to such a tough challenge, just not choose that difficulty and you will be fine. As Kena has a lot of different difficulties for any kind of players. Like Torq said, handle it like a totally new kind of game experience and not meant for normal gamers that want to enjoy the story. Luckily Kena does also allow you to always switch down a difficulty during your run (but not back up again), no player will actually get softlocked in game progressionby not being able to defeat the bosses.
nah, absolutely not.
You can obtain extra exclusive charms in a new game+ that makes the mode easier in overall in my opinion. Also you start with all rot powers and abilities that makes the first boss fights easier for sure. Especially the spirit dash is so imba, It can just tackle and completely cancel enemy boss attacks while lowering the boss defense at the same time. Make good use of it.
The only problem is the extra fourth boss health bar, the "flame mode". But if you are smart you can just work around it by skipping them totally. I was able to do that nearly on all bosses, and if not, I just had to fight 10-20% of the fourth health bar under normal battle conditions, so I just needed a little bit of extra luck to achieve victory. And the final boss just has some extra mobs that support it, that was just ridiculous and added nothing challenging to the fight at all.
But yes, everyone is experiencing the game differently depending on tactics and skills the player uses. For me standard master mode was way more challenging due to the limited possibilities (rot points, charms and abilties you are able to gain before a certain boss fight).
Master game mode in general is pretty challenging, whether on standard or ng+ conditions, that is for certain. In both runs you have to really learn how bosses work and some luck to win. Both runs took me to the limits of my personal skills indeed and I had to redo some of the fights 50+ times to beat them by doing tiny steps in mastering the boss stages and absusing the boss weakspots bit by bit better each time.
