If it's the guy I'm thinking, it's a Quick Time Event, just input the keys as they show up on the screen.

If too difficult with a keyboard, I'd suggest a gamepad, as it tends to make QTE smoother.

If I recall, that particular QTE (or maybe all of them) doesn't register rebinded keys, so if you've rebinded a bunch of your keys for actions like shootdodging, rolls, bullet time and so on, it might be ignoring that and expecting you to press one of the default keys.

Forgot which button/action it was since I've played this over 6 months ago, but I remember dying over and over to the same machete scenario until I pressed the right (default) key.

Guys doesn't work even with tge controller
