Any GTA game by comparison is just a title where kids love to horse around doing silly things, from the floaty, unrealistic car stunts, to beating up average citizens for no reason. And the 3 main characters in GTAV are pretty much dysfunctional losers that are always bickering with each other.

Max Payne 3 by comparison has realistic weapon carrying, vs being able to carry an entire arsenal that magically disappears when you "carry" it, and cinematic dodge rolling with the slow mo "bullet time" the MP franchise pioneered. It also has far better dialog and voice acting.

What it comes down to is whether you want to play a story driven, noir type game, with cinematic action, or horse around in a big city playing a game that's designed for the immature.

the cutscenes are excellent, but tying them to the loading hampers the replay value a lot. now instead of 'extremely replayable', max payne 3 is merely 'very replayable.'

no, no i simply refuse. i won't pretend max payne 3 didn't tie loading to the cutscenes, not for all the fun in the world.

they're set in parodies of new york city, miami and LA specifically so you can do this without fear of committing any actual wrongdoing. it's a very realistic and mature simulation... of florida. it's as flattering and complicated as they could make it.

red dead redemption, same deal. it's as cool and mature as you can make a western... set in the 1910s' Mild West. They have to bring in Mexico and zombies just to make it seem interesting.

The only realism worth noting in GTAV is it's use of Euphoria, an addon for physics engines that enhances bodies with skeletal structure to make them move realistically.

Personally no one really needs parodies of the worst examples of humanity, we see FAR too much of it in the news lately.

And anyone that thinks beating up random civilians for no reason is "fun", feeling it's not "wrong", ought to be in an asylum.

Max Payne games are mostly about the plot. You play them to experience the story.

1 and 2 have the legendary status due to bullet time mechanic which was mind boggling at the time of release, but otherwise the gameplay is pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥. That's definitely true. It's not why you play a game like this one though.

How is it a GTA "clone" when it was developed by the same devs

The game itself is good, but unscipable scenes are horror movie.
I hate them.
