is this a coop game or a lose-faith-in-humanity simulator?
Connection to steam accounts would be an improvement. The anonymity featured makes everyone think they are God and can boss you around cursing you out like a dirty sailor for no reason. Can't join a single server without being attackspammed with crowbars or someone rushing through the map or... Where's the COOP? All I get is every man for himself, and I've been to at least 20 servers already.

I don't see much future for this game, communitywise. No one is grown up.

You can turn off chat completely by using hud_saytext_time 0 console command, if you dont want to see any worthless text messages. However, if you wish to communicate, you may want to put it back to 12 or less.

A fine co-op experience can always be achieved when playing with friends. A 50%\50% chance of fine co-op experience can happen on servers with 4 player slots only or on Survival only servers. Depends on luck really.

well - currently I'm in the starting of a new community around the SC-mod
when everything is in place I hope I can get near the community MPUKSC is (wich is still the biggest sc-community - closely followed by snarkcafe)
there will be multiple servers featuring not only custom maps but also dedicated sp-servers and also with and with-out XP-mod
but this will use up much performance of my current server - and also it's currently very unstable to set up such a big system
it will take a few updates and maybe some months to get everything fully stable up and running
if you want to join just give it a try
lookout for a server called "cryptearth.de SC5 community server"

I personally prefer anonymity. Keep in mind that Sven Co-op has always had people avoiding co-op. If you want to encourage more co-operative gameplay, heal and revive those in need. Try to solve puzzles together. Also be active in chat. That's always helped me. And I don't pay too much heed to chat if it's just banter.

A bit different when 3 seconds after joining you're already subject of a votekick by the other 4 people. Or the second you join you're told to "F off" just for saying "Hi" to someone playing alone. I think I'll just stick to listen servers playing solo, no matter how OP the npcs are

So you are complaining about common misbehavior in every online game ever?

To be fair, SvenCoop was never planned to be an MMO like game where thousands of players are online. Thats why creating server is so cluncky. SvenCoop was build for network partys with friends mostly.

I expected such small community to be a little less toxic than CSGO one... Small communities are often friendly to accomodate it's small numbers so players don't go away. But no, everyone's a jerk. I don't care personally, I'm not the easily offended one, but my gf is scared to join any server.

You dont get my point: It WAS a small community. Then the Steam release kicked in and thousands new players came in. Now you had the average CS player playing a Coop game. Of course it would end in desaster.
I mostly heal other players or write tipps in the chat, but the only other players who do that, seem to be players with a golden logo and players who are online very often on the same server.

The game had a very rough steam release. Give it time to loose all the dead weight until only the players are left, who actually have fun playing SvenCoop.

Dude, I totally get it. I have the same opinion about this. It feels like everyone is thinking only of themselves. There's no sense of co-op

This game is, has been, and always will be best played privately with a group of friends. Second to that, playing in a public community with regulars.

Playing in random public servers will always be inferior. This isn't a unique problem to Sven Co-op: anonymity + audience = total dickwad.

No idea why this needed the thread necro but I answered this in the post above you 8 years ago.

If you want better teamplay, try to avoid XP servers. I play on misfire XPM and nonXPM and the difference is night and day. Its just that all casuals play on XP servers, since its the easiest way to have fun for an hour or two, but it massivly trivialises the difficulty, so everyone shuts their brain off.

The issue is, that the XP servers always have players, but the non XP servers see a player once a week, but if I find another player, they are mostly responsive and cooperative, while in XP servers they mostly dont even talk.

The only time I ever was able to play a coop game with random people on the internet without issues was the release of Left 4 Dead 2 and that was a different time, when the internet was way less toxic.

Misfire servers are the way to go, even XP ones, you can get people to talk and it's a fun community to hang out with. Usually pure chaos lol

you're probably playing with a bunch of brazilians and peruvians that spam sounds and smiley faces in text, horrible bunch of anti-gamers.
