I know I shouldn't answer deliberate trolling/inflammatory crap like this, but once you get the other companions I believe you can switch them out.

Kai is into you if you play a male

This is not an RPG with agency. This is an Action Adventure with light RPG elements, that forces followers onto you. Beasically you are forced into accepting and agreeing with your companions..

This is due to poor development quality (RPG mechanics) and not trusting the players agency.

They force you to play with Kai during the initial portion of the game because he was written by the game director and she WANTS YOU to listen to what she wrote regardless if you like it or not

Or maybe because the game was balanced around having a certain number of party members at certain points in the game.

You can't just get rid of Kai. Kai is the only person in the whole game that you can romance. That's right. Gay romance is the only option goy!
