Community Challenge #7: the Witch Hunter
Hi everyone! To celebrate the recent release of The Captain, second novel of the Witch Hunter cycle in the Battle Brothers setting, we're announcing today a new community challenge. This time we're stepping in the boots of Richter Von Dagentear, the infamous witchhunter known as the Wight, turned captain of his very own mercenary company.

As a new captain, you have to prove yourself to the world -- and to your own men. As you carry out contracts successfully, you will gain Captain ranks: contracts will pay more and recruits will be cheaper, as your fame will precede you and they will see fighting in your company as a privilege. But if you fail, you'll have to pay for your mistakes until you regain their confidence. But above all, at heart you still are a witchhunter, always striving to rid the world of evil hexen and their ilk. Hunt them with your company and you will gain powerful boons. Feared and despised as witchhunters are, mankind still needs you to keep at bay the evils that lurk in the nights...

RULES

  • The Wight: start with a single powerful witchhunter. The campaign ends if he dies.
  • New to command: can never have more than 12 men in your roster.
  • Reputation to uphold: gain various boons based on your success as a sellsword and a witchhunter.

    GOALS

    • Win condition: clear the Witch Hut.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CHALLENGE

1. Download ModHook: https://www.nexusmods.com/battlebrothers/mods/42?tab=files&file_id=2417

2. Drop the ModHook zip in the Battle Brothers /data folder (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battle Brothers\data), without unzipping it

3. Download this: https://we.tl/t-LcOr8Cv163

4. Without extracting, put the relevant zip file in your game's data directory.

Very cool.

I'm going to try and roleplay this as best as I can, but its been awhile since I read the book, and I haven't read the second book yet.

If someone can help remind me and theory up some roleplay ideas I would appreciate that. Do they give the company a canonical name in the book? I don't remember.

As I haven't read the second book yet, I just have the first to go off of. Here's what I have at the moment. I'll put it in spoiler tags just in case anyone minds.


Richter - Witchhunter - Xbow/Dagger
Dahlgren - Retired Soldier - Shieldbro
Quinn - Thief - Dagger (or does he use a sword I forget)
Crockett - Historian - Don't remember what he uses
Elletrache - Beast Slayer - Xbow (does he use a melee also?)

Hobbs - Maybe can be represented by Scavenger retinue
Sophia - I guess she can be represented via retinue, but not sure who is appropriate.

Thomas - Servant - Not sure if he deserves a spot given his actions in the book, but I might put him in anyway since I don't have enough characters to fill the roster.
♥♥♥♥♥ - Witchhunter - Melee proficient, though we don't know a lot about him from the first book.

Anyone I'm forgetting, or any other roleplay ideas anyone has? If someone has read the second book and has more background suggestions I would be interested in that, but I would like to avoid second book spoilers, so no more information than what I have in my own spoilers if you don't mind.

Very nice. I always wanted a witchhunter start.
This is my company on day 12. It is not going good. Punishing me even more for loosing men is hard.

Hope the thread keeps pinned for a long time. It would be a shame if any newcomers or old players returning lose the experience.

Experiencing game crashing whenever I kill a hexe. Reloaded and tried a few times but game always freezes as soon as I kill the hexe. Frustrating as it's day 94 and it's the first hexe mission I found.

Same here, crashes after killing the hexe :(

So obviously I didn't get a chance to look at it that weekend - August in general was kind of a crazy month. Sorry about that.

On the plus side, I did get a chance to sit down with this tonight and find the bug, as well as put together and confirm a fix. I'll publish the updated mod on my Github and link it here when that's done. If anyone wants to continue a campaign they started with the initial version it should be compatible - I don't have any of the changes KingDZ made so I can't speak to those but just going from what I initially gave Santo to this should work.

just want to say your mods are amazing. so well thought-out and fun to play through.
I wish they were more visible and mainstream so we have streamers play them they are simply too good and add to the original BB experience in a perfect way.
