download a mod in modbanana and then browse tf2 files, go to tf, customs and then put it there (if there is no customs create it)

TF2 SDK based mods
  • Third party Sites (example: ModDB website):
    1. Download the mod.
    2. Put the contents of the archive into steamapps/sourcemods folder.
    3. Restart Steam.
    4. Mod will appear in your Steam Library.
  • Steam Store:
    1. Click download button on Steam Store page of that mod.
    2. Wait until mod is fully downloaded.
    3. Mod will appear in your Steam Library.

Custom folder based mods

Currently, the majorty of TF2 mods are just custom folder based mods.
But thanks to that TF2 SDK update, modders will now be able to create mods based on TF2 SDK.
