It's the same reason you see threads saying they should remove Windows support and make TF2 Linux only-- it's stupid nonsense bait, but it's stupid nonsense bait that's tried and true, people get annoyed about it, reply, and toss clown awards at the person who wants to farm free steam points. Because this behavior is given a tangible reward, as long as it 'works', the disingenuous bait posts will continue.
Only annoying part is they won't shut up and their own sort trade clowns so they can feel real.
They're more attention seeking than the emotional colorful people they despise. Sad.
it is a small amount in the grand scheme of things, but those that were already interested in posting bait now have a carrot on a stick to shoot for that low hanging fruit
more realistically, steam points can be sold to other users in trades, or if you want a bigger friends list or something they're also useful for that. there is material value in them, even if really small.
