they've done worse things

Valve is very neglectful with their games, but has overall done great stuff for the gaming industry at large. Steam being a convenient platform for PC gaming, Proton enabling Linux gaming to a great extent, etc.

TF2 is no longer making Valve big money so the updates have slowed.

The basic thing is that Valve neglected to fix any of the major problems with the Casual system that it had for years, they constantly tried to make TF2 an e-sport while it was very obvious no system could bridge the gap between casual and comp players, they destroyed community servers with the launch of casual because of all the new players not even noticing its existence. There is a ton more to it so I do recommend just skimming through the video or watching the whole thing in seperate chunks throughout the day like I did.

They are pretty awfull but there's worse ones like Blizzard, EA, or epic.
