They removed Mana Surge for male crystal elves because they were trying to make it easier for new players as they said. Given that there are barely any new players, might as well bring it back. It's also a known thing that devs sometimes balance games far too much to favor high level "competitive" play but making it less fun for the majority of players. Low to mid level players are after all what makes most online games survive since they're the majority.
"We want to put Sentry in the starter deck, but don't want to confuse new players with Mana Surge. Therefore we are introducing a new rule that male crystal elves do not have Mana Surge."

Not that I want to see it back, it's not "fun" to slap it on every Crystal card possible. And e.g. Sentry doesn't need buffs. You can try to suggest it in monthly balance channel on Discord though.
I actually just wanted it back on the Crystal Sentry and the Crystal Construct. Especially on the Crystal Construct because I suggested that years ago and was happy when they finally did that, only to be removed after a short time.
Unfortunately I think the only players left on Discord are the few players who like the way the game is so I think my suggestion will just get ignored. I think almost all the players that liked the old fun mechanics already left out of frustration...
though, if this idea of giving him surge and some other balance changes was supported by the stats and the community, it'd go through!
More context on this?
