Wiki
I would like to present to you the wiki i wrote over the course of the last month:

https://thehuntercotw.fandom.com/wiki/TheHunter:_Call_of_the_Wild_Wiki

Its not nearly finsihed (because it lacks some of the basic concepts of the game, usefull guides and a lot of illustrating pictures), but it now has 140 content pages (which i, in lack of additional editors, wrote myself) including all animals, weapons, scopes, ammunition (mainly all of the shop stuff), reserves (but these sites need a lot of additional editing) and some important game concepts (integrity, rating etc.; i toke the information from the breakdowns here on steam, the respective authors are acknowledged at the main page and on the respective site). I also added a list of all achievements and their respective tasks and in the near future i will add the different skills and perks. At this point, the wiki should cover at least the most basic concepts and should be usefull for you guys :)

P.S. Yes, i know that their was another attempt to start a wiki, but i didn't even noticed that this game has TWO wikia wikis before i wrote 50 pages at "my" wiki (it was started by another guy, but i adopted it and currently have bureaucrat rights; at the start it only contained 10 "pages" which were poorly edited). The main reason for this was that the other wiki is only named "theHunter: COTW". Honestly, that's quite a shame but it noticed that the second wiki mainly contained empty pages with the note "information will go here", so it may not be a to great loss. If allowed, i would transfer all useful stuff into my wiki to merge out two efforts :)

P.P.S. I don't know if "General Discussions" is the right spot for this, so an admin may move this topic, if i placed it wrong.

Off to a great start!:steamhappy:

I'll move this to "Tips, Tricks and Guides". I think it probably fits best there and deserves a sticky so others can find it easier.

Thanks for doing this.:steamhappy:

It does look very promising, and one can see that you put a lot of work into this yet. Keep it up, this game definately needs a good source for good information

As a short update: The wiki now contains 223 content pages and all of todays released DLC (except the Strecker shotgun, i will add this tomorrow).

Many of the pages unfortunately only copy over the information from the game itself, while being a great effort, it unfortunately renders a lot of the pages practically useless. I mean no offence by this as I'm glad that you put in the effort. I think it'd be a good idea if a project management system was created on a platform like Trello, and a thread created in the discussion board, to coordinate the efforts for updating the wiki with more accurate information. A good example would be the visibility and noise indicators. I know for a fact that the half circle underneith the long line is 25m, and I'm assuming that each icon follow similar increments. This is the sort of information that would make the wiki useful.

As far as visibiliy goes, I'm assuming that it is something like this:

- 1-5m
--- 5-10m
line and half circle 25m
oval 50m
circle 75-100m

I'd imagine that if I'm right that sound would follow a similar system. I've not been able to purchase the range finder yet so I cannot take precise measurements.

The first problem about the wiki is, that nobody adds anything other then a few images. I myself cannot gather all the information because...well, i have a life besides the game and wiki. So changes to the wiki are usually very slow. I try to add as many information as possible, but well...to gather them i have to play the game, which is time comsuming.

The next problem is, that no information whatsoever is available. Everyone only guesses what's right. No reliable source for things like that can be found.

By creating a public project management board it allows anyone at anytime to view what needs to be added to the wiki. Through trial & error over time people should be able to fill in the gaps in the wiki, where information isn't present in game. I'm almost level 11 now, so I should be able to unlock the rangefinder here momentarily.

With regards to the idea of opening a project management board, we could have an area for "To Do", an area for "In Progress", and something to the equivalent of a "Holding Area" to confirm the information submitted by other users.

But a few things to keep in mind, is this isn't a significant undertaking that will require daily dedication. It's something that anyone can come back to whenever they remember. Additionally, a margin of error is to be expected with any data point, especially since due to how the game engine works, not everything will be consistent. So if someone reads something as 25 meters when it's really 20 meters, it isn't a significant issue.

Anyways, in the mean time if there are any bits of info you need gathered let me know. Currently exploring the Highton Peaks region.

Visibility has been covered so that's good, but we're still missing noise, and scent.

Some people say that because the 4x4 creates 3 red bars of noise and it can be heard up to 300M, that the same applies to when we're running. Does it? I mean, it doesn't make sense to me that we make as much noise running around as a quad... Alternatively I'd read some opinions suggesting that the quad and running have different caps - the latter being 150m.

If the 150m theory holds any water, here's what I think:
1 bar - 5m~
2 bars - 15m~
3 bars - 25m~

1 red bar - 50m~
2 red bar - 100m~
3 red bar - 150m~

As for scent, my guess is that that with no wind it caps at around 100m, with a slightly wider cone than the one indicated on the compass, and 200m when the weather picks up... kind of similar to the scent canisters.

So, everything together:
Visibility: 100m (for full circle)
Noise: 150m (for 3 red bars on foot)
Scent: 200m (with strong winds)

Anything else? Updates? Suggestions?

------------------------------------------------------

PS: Obviously the effectiveness of these ranges vary from animal to animal. The better their senses the faster they are at noticing your presence, even if you're being somewhat careful.

Easier animals tend to be more "forgiving" and vocal, you can get away with a few mistakes and still bag one. However, more difficult ones high-tail out of there as soon as their strongest sense picks up your presence - they don't need extra warnings and many don't give any themselves either.
