I'll move this to "Tips, Tricks and Guides". I think it probably fits best there and deserves a sticky so others can find it easier.
Thanks for doing this.
As far as visibiliy goes, I'm assuming that it is something like this:
- 1-5m
--- 5-10m
line and half circle 25m
oval 50m
circle 75-100m
I'd imagine that if I'm right that sound would follow a similar system. I've not been able to purchase the range finder yet so I cannot take precise measurements.
The next problem is, that no information whatsoever is available. Everyone only guesses what's right. No reliable source for things like that can be found.
With regards to the idea of opening a project management board, we could have an area for "To Do", an area for "In Progress", and something to the equivalent of a "Holding Area" to confirm the information submitted by other users.
But a few things to keep in mind, is this isn't a significant undertaking that will require daily dedication. It's something that anyone can come back to whenever they remember. Additionally, a margin of error is to be expected with any data point, especially since due to how the game engine works, not everything will be consistent. So if someone reads something as 25 meters when it's really 20 meters, it isn't a significant issue.
Anyways, in the mean time if there are any bits of info you need gathered let me know. Currently exploring the Highton Peaks region.
Some people say that because the 4x4 creates 3 red bars of noise and it can be heard up to 300M, that the same applies to when we're running. Does it? I mean, it doesn't make sense to me that we make as much noise running around as a quad... Alternatively I'd read some opinions suggesting that the quad and running have different caps - the latter being 150m.
If the 150m theory holds any water, here's what I think:
1 bar - 5m~
2 bars - 15m~
3 bars - 25m~
1 red bar - 50m~
2 red bar - 100m~
3 red bar - 150m~
As for scent, my guess is that that with no wind it caps at around 100m, with a slightly wider cone than the one indicated on the compass, and 200m when the weather picks up... kind of similar to the scent canisters.
So, everything together:
Visibility: 100m (for full circle)
Noise: 150m (for 3 red bars on foot)
Scent: 200m (with strong winds)
Anything else? Updates? Suggestions?

PS: Obviously the effectiveness of these ranges vary from animal to animal. The better their senses the faster they are at noticing your presence, even if you're being somewhat careful.
Easier animals tend to be more "forgiving" and vocal, you can get away with a few mistakes and still bag one. However, more difficult ones high-tail out of there as soon as their strongest sense picks up your presence - they don't need extra warnings and many don't give any themselves either.
