Grab some headphones, and load up the PS2 or Dreamcast version, then go and play the same levels on the Infinite version. You'll notice that a lot of the depth and layers in the sounds have been changed. Effects like reverb, delay, etc. A lot of it is subtle, but noticeable. And it changes the vibe.
I think this is an important game in the history of games, and I really think you guys should be better stewards of it. If you fix it now, yes, it will cost money, but it will be fixed forever, and I will be able to recommend it to people
Because right now, I have to tell people to play it on a PS2 emulator, or to play it on a Dreamcast or PS2. I can't recommend the PC version as it stands right now
