Yep, I believe Alien was funded by Sega so a much bigger budget. Terminator Resistance doesn't even have Arnold's likeness or voice, because that would cost too much. They did a great job considering their resources.
Gameplay-wise, it's pretty basic. Nothing advanced. There's stealth and basic shoot-em up segments, but honestly, outside of the specific stealth segments of the story or trying to get into outposts, stealth is rarely a factor unless you want it to be. I tried stealthing, but it just made things take too long. I started killing everything and it netted me more XP and materials without having to slow my progress down to a crawl. Also, as a side note, the game teaches you about melee attacks early on in tutorial and that you can smash down wooden boards that are in some doorways....but honestly melee is completely useless. The most you can hope to do is take down the small crab bots, but you only melee if they have no health left or you have no ammo. There also was I think legit only like 2 instances where I found boards in doorways that I needed melee to break and that included the tutorial. So melee is a joke
I find the story to be pretty bland though. It's pretty predictable at times and the characters aren't exactly likable or "human". The game tried to have a "trust" system where you needed to do favors for characters to get them to trust you, but it honestly really never comes into play outside of an end-game decision that doesn't reflect on gameplay and only alters the ending. So it's kind of a wasted mechanic, like melee
Don't go in expecting an open world adventure like Fallout. The maps are actually very small and are just made to LOOK big. In reality, the maps are pretty linear in that you gotta push through to quest locations and then go back. Repeat until you move to next map
Also, do not go in expecting to be having to deal with the disguised Terminators like Arnie. While they show up in-game, it's only during heavily scripted story moments. I was hoping/thinking that I'd be having to sneak around the map while one hunted me down, but that never happens. They're basically a non-factor in the basic gameflow. They only show up in story segments
I just started the DLC myself so I haven't played through everything yet, but I beat the main game. It's good if you are a fan. Just don't go in expecting a huge immersive experience with top of the line gaming mechanics. It's a pretty bare bones shooter with very very lite RPG skill points. Story is meh. Gameplay is meh. Immersion is honestly not great since you're able to solo dozens Terminators when realistically you should need multiple people with you. Only saving grace for immersion is the destroyed world aesthetic. Most of it really feels like those glimpses we got in the first movie
Get it on sale if you really want it
