This is not good. The plot is very ambitious, however it's so hamfisted it's unbearable:

1. First off, the main character, Tassi, doesn't know when to shut up. The protagonist constantly telling me what to feel is like canned laugh in non-funny comedies.
   
2. Secondly, it explains all the stuff that should never, ever be explained, especially in cosmic/Lovecraftian horror.
   
3. Thirdly, control is taken away from the player frequently. Unending exposition cutscenes and flashbacks, all unskippable. Much more than in previous entries. Loading screen slides with even more exposition which cannot be skipped on first time through.
   
4. Finally, and most importantly. Motherhood is a theme that is not explored enough in games, but this is plainly poorly executed. Very early in the game (so it's not really a spoiler) Tassi discovers she's pregnant. This is the moment that her character, as well as pretty much the entire plot, shifts to keeping that unborn baby safe. It's constantly baby this and baby that. I know that Tassi is so overprotective due to what happened to her first child, but it's too overbearing to the point you stop caring due to overexposure. It's melodramatic, pretentious, and mining for sympathy. It even affects gameplay, where you have to pat your belly and talk to the baby to calm yourself down during STEALTH sections. Yes, this game has a "pat your belly and talk to the baby" button. A dedicated pregnancy button. If this were a movie, it would be obvious Oscar-bait.

As for the rest of the game:

• Environments look gorgeous, but with random huge FPS drops.
  
• Heat stroke mechanic is only present in the first 10 minutes of the game and never makes a return. The Traveler's Pendant is important in the first half, and then becomes horribly underutilized.
  
• Oil in lamp runs out at extreme rate. A fully filled lamp lasts around a minute.
  
• Stealth system is almost unchanged and remains weak and half-baked as it was in The Dark Descent. Thankfully, there aren't many sections where it's required, but the point still stands.
  
• Death is not a punishment. It's a reward. You can fail upwards, i.e. the game often respawns you AFTER the section you died in.
  
• Extremely long death and respawn animations that last around 30 seconds or so.

Amnesia: Rebirth drinking game:

1. Drink a shot each time anybody utters the words 'little one'.
   
2. Die of alcohol poisoning within an hour.

What a disappointment.

I have read lots of reviews for this game and seen lots of negative feedback on the story and gameplay, which made me think I was not going to like this, but I ended up loving this game! This is my favorite in the Amensia selection of games. This game in my opinion is much more scarier then TDD and AMFP. Many places I had to go into had me so freaked out. The game is definitely more cinematic, which was not a problem for me. The game didn't make it easy to make through and I thought it brought me a better experience overall. The story was the best part of the game for me. It really stuck with me and had great amounts of emotion and thought provoking sequences. I thought it provided great endings and fun challenges for the 100% completion. This game is not my favorite of all time, but I would 100% recommend this to anybody! A very good 8/10 for Amnesia: Rebirth.

This game follows Tasi Triannon, her husband, Salim, and a crew of people that were on an expedition to Africa, when the plane has a crash in Algeria. You wake up as Tasi in the plane after the crash and find that no-one is on the plane but yourself. You have to escape the plane and make your way through the desert with fragmented memories to remember what has happened. During your exploration in the caves, you realize the band on your arm is an ancient amulet that allows you to between objects to a different world.

As the game progresses, you gain the memory that you are pregnant. This becomes a vital part to the story and really was interesting to me. As the search continues for the crew and your husband, you finally come across the corpse of Salim, leaving you heartbroken and scared for your next steps. Tasi continues on and works to get out of this place. As she progresses through the desert, you gain more memories with each place you visit. You come across a fort with a radio. You find that Dr. Metzier is alive and you need to reunite with him. You end up having to get the ingredients to make ammo for the tank to progress. The Fort is the first place I was quite scared of and was nervous to get through.

Once you create the ammo for the tank to blow up the door, things go south as the tank falls through the ground and are stuck in The Cistern. Here you have to get back to the surface while avoiding the ghouls that are now after you. After you are brought back to the surface, you discover a memory of ghostly figure that is called "The Empress" that will save the whole crew if you are to give your baby to her, as she is unable to have children now. Tasi refuses and causes the doom of the crew.

Tasi once again is brought underground thanks to quicksand, and finds a teleporter. She would like to use the teleporter to get to the village where the Doctor is. The more the story goes on, the more pregnant Tasi becomes, bringing her closer to having the baby. She has to get Vitae to get the teleporter working. You have to visit a few places to get the Vitae. This in my opinion is the scariest part of the game. You encounter so many ghouls, and also find a special ghoul, that almost takes out Tasi, but somehow remembers her and stops himself. You find this to be Leon, who was on the expedetion, and have to escape before he can't stop himself from killing her.

Once you finally teleport, it of course does not take you where you should be, and learn of the sickness that is growing in Amari, your child, thanks to The Empress. As you progress, you go through a factory where humans are tortured for vitae, and finally find a way out and get to the tower. You don't end up finding the doctor, you find another crew member, Yasmin, who is almost turned into a ghoul and tries to kill you. The doctor ends up stopping her and saving you, which is good timing, as your water broke and you are ready to have the baby.

Once you finally have a sucessful birth, the doctor takes off with Amari and you have to chase back down to the final place of the story in the Dark World. Once you reach the doctor, out of rage you kill him. The Empress gives you final choices for the end of the game.

The story tackles so many awesome things like motherhood, difficult choices, and perseverance. Having to make the choice of your baby over the gamble of safety is one that leaves you pondering always if that was the right choice. If you love great stories with good emotion, I cannot recommend this enough! 9/10

The gameplay mechanics are almost the same since the first game but are quite smooth and polished now. You carry a lantern just like the first, but now you also primarily use matches you find around the game to light the way. This one goes back to the feel of TDD, and you have to get oil for your lantern. If you are looking around, you should be able to find more than enough matches/oil to have a lit path through the whole game. You again pick up items that can be important to the story that will be used from your inventory. 8/10

One of the achievements in the game is to get a certain percentage of the notes, so you need to make sure as you progress you are grabbing lots of them. All memory cylinders and post cards are needed for an achievement too, so make sure to get all of those. The cylinders light up and are not too hard to find, but the post cards can be more hidden. That was a little bit of a harder due to the environment, but it is expected for the 100%. 6/10

The ending "boss fight" in this game is in my opinion very very good, with lots of emotion and is still terrifying. There is three endings you can get from it which are all fantastic! 8/10
1. You leave Amari in the crib for the Empress. The Empress turns you into a ghoul and you are stuck in the Dark World. While you are a ghoul, you still have scattered memories of your child. (You get caught by the empress)
2. You decide to take down the empress, ending the horrible creation that she has created and herself. You save all the humans stuck suffering in this world, but it comes at the cost of sacrificing yourself and Amari. (Inject flesh in all of the Vitae supply while avoiding empress)
3. You decide to take Amari from the Crib and leave the Dark World. You have to get to the teleporter and go to Paris and finally escape The Empress. While you are now safe, Amari's fate is unknown, as the sickness is within her. (Hide from Empress and get to teleporter.)
