This is the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment's US counterpart

The 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (nickname Red Devils) fought during ww2 in St. Mère Eglise at D-Day and at Merderet river near LaFiere and Chef-du-Pont. At 7 July 1944 did they became the diviion reserve force. On 13 July did they transported back to England via two LST's and returned to their station at Wollaton Park. Of the 2056 troops who participated in the D-Day landings, only 995 returned. The regiment suffered 1061 casualties, of wich 307 where killed in action.
