Star Trek: Bridge Crew
Hey Artemis Fans,

with Star Trek: Bridge Crew around the corner (http://www.play3.de/2017/04/05/star-trek-bridge-crew-bruecke-der-u-s-s-enterprise-im-frischen-trailer/), I am personally extremely hyped. I want this game and I want it now!
On the other Hand it makes me think that this might be the end of Artemis.

Why is that?
Well, in the first place Artemis is not in its all-time-high these days anyway. (Check here for statistics of Artemis on Steam: http://steamcharts.com/app/247350)
Then, Artemis will not be unique anymore. I know, it never was, with Quintett, EmptyEpsilon and other Crew Games around, but now there will be a AAA title around, with huge marketing efforts gaining a lot of attention. I even think that the broad mainstream gaming community will receive Star Trek: Bridge Crew as the first crew game at all, not even knowing of Artemis.
Next, Artemis always lacked on Internet play. While it was perfectly OK being aimed at local play, and an understandable decision with the focus of social gaming, it was also always an obstacle to bigger success. Star Trek: Bridge Crew will not only make Internet play smooth and easy, it will even remove the need of sitting next to each other while still maintaining a social experience - with the help of VR.
Lastly, ST:BC is a multi platformer, targeting Windows and PlayStation and thus reaching even more players.
Of course there are also disadvantages, e.g. the price and the requirements (VR is expensive...)

And of course, Artemis will not die out completely. It always had a very strong community - developers for custom tools, mission scripters, role play fanatics, ... - and they won't vanish for good.
But I have also seen a lot of good guys leaving in the recent months. Star Trek: Bridge Crew feels like a big natural milestone in this development.

I'm interested in all your perspectives to this. What do you think?
