I feel like many would-be Artemis-lovers are having difficulty finding others to play with them... or they simply don't know where to go or what to do to find/host a game. I'm hoping to spark a bit of life in the community by providing some tips.


Try the TeamSpeak Servers
There are two is one active TeamSpeak server I'm aware of where you can go to find players:

• comms.mytsn.net (Home of the TSN)
  
• (The ArtemisSpeak server has been taken down due to inactivity. See this announcement.)

If you log in and find either no one online or no games running, I suggest waiting around for a short while because there are others who will pop in, find no one else, become discouraged, and immediately leave. The number of people connected varies depending on the time of day.

Try Creating a Public Event
By creating a public event here in the Unofficial Artemis Players Group, you might be able to gather a few players. You can either schedule an event in advance or make an event in the present and hope some players catch the pop-up on Steam.

Join a Roleplaying Community
You can read a synopsis of the three major groups by visiting this announcement by Pupbrad. He also provides links for signing up.

Port Forward
To be able to host a server, you need to port forward[en.wikipedia.org] to open up a certain port to incoming traffic. The default port Artemis uses is 2010 (type TCP), but you can change this in the artemis.ini file. If you need help port forwarding, a quick search on the internet will yield many results and resources to assist you, including YouTube videos.

Avoiding Port Forwarding
If all computers connecting to the server computer are within the same Local Area Network (LAN), you do not need to port forward. Additionally, you can utilize a third-party program/ service called a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to forgo the need of port forwarding. I have used two VPN's in the past.:

Hamachi by LogMeIn (at https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/) has a free trial version of their program that will allow you to extend LAN-like networks to others over the internet. You will have to set up an account with them, however. Please note that all players will need to use Hamachi for it to work.

Evolve by Echobit (at https://www.evolvehq.com/welcome) is a free program that can create a faux LAN connection over the internet, like Hamachi. The difference is that Evolve is also a sort of "social media" for gaming; it includes a friends list, matchmaking system, and live streaming services (via Twitch) built in. You will have to set up an account with them to use their application. Please note that all players will need to be logged in to Evolve and be within the same game party to play.

(Edit; Note on Hamachi: Having used Hamachi on two computers, and having spoken with others about it, it seems like Hamachi is disinclined to completely turn itself off; even after turning auto-run off in both the program's preferences and in my computer's startup options, Hamachi still forces itself on upon computer startup. It's kinda creepy... We've just been using Evolve.)
