Family view is Valve's 1/2 hearted attempt to add parental controls. Opposed to 50 years of establish system design You have to log on to the kids account to set the control rather than from a parental/admin account.

If you've set up family view on your account it won't effect what your sister can see from your library. She'll see all the games shareable you have.

You can't play ANYTHING while sister borrows your library

SFS does not allow you to play different games on different computers at the same time.

Yes, you read that right, and yes its almost completely useless.

The only thing you can do is put your account into offline mode before playing, this will stop you locking the library and let your sister play.

No such thing in Steam

You'll have to create an account and let him use it.

Technically this breaks the Subscription terms unless you get explicit permission from Valve.

Its also worth noting SFS is awful for families as it blocks concurrent use of different game from 1 account. So if you play anything they can't, even if its an entirely different game.

Steam isn't designed for families, and Valve is adamant that it won't ever allow concurrent use.

If you are a family of gamers, every other platform is far better.

Back when SFS was first released, Valve was pushing the Steam-Machine. They were trying to add an extra Steam device into your home, just as they are with the Steam deck. Back then Valve blanked, blocked and buried any and every discussion about concurrent use from a single library.

Some 9000 beta testers petitioned Valve to make SFS allow out kids to play different games at the same time.. nothing

I was in the closed beta, having a discussion with a dev about a bug, brought up concurrent use, conversation ended there and then.

If you look to the top of this page, see the bit that says "Family Sharing bug reports"? This forum used to have a general discussion section. 10's of thousands of posts. Valve removed it.

There are bugs 7 years old, that Valve even claimed to had fixes for which were never fixed.

There is only 2 ways Valve will ever change SFS
Either being forced by the Courts (and they'll drag that out for years)
or
Being forced by competition

How SFS was released, and how Valve treated the families that tested the system made me stop using Steam.

Use GoG, Use Epic, hell even use WinStore, all are 1000x more family friendly than Steam

the new gen of consoles do have keyboard and mouse support, the catch is the games themselves have to also allow support on the console. It's in the system UI on the ps5 (a couple spots for basic mouse & kb setup) and I heard the new xbox can also use a mouse and keyboard (haven't confirmed that one personally).
