They turned my backyard into a game

I don't know what's more insane, the world and art direction of this game or the fact that SEGA saw the first one and said we want to publish the sequel

The gameplay team for this game put together solid first person brawling while the art team smoked classified CIA hallucinogens behind the studio office, it's certainly "unique"

Just 100% this childhood gem, such a fun time platforming through memory lane in this seriously underrated game

The variety of different tasks you end up undertaking is actually really impressive for a game from 2003, I barely remembered any of the game during this revisit apart from the amazing soundtrack so it was a joy running into the various new mechanics that get introduced such as on rails shooting, racing, flying planes and a few other things I won't spoil

The collectables are actually worth getting because they enhance the gameplay and grow the different meters you have access to like power and health pools, all the voodoo powers are unique and watching all new the animations play out as you unlock more and more just add so much character to the game

The puzzles actually have a lot of depth and some of them took me considerable time to work out which is rare in a platformer, most others are quite idiot proof but here you may have to use your brain which was a great change of pace and kept them fresh. The final few levels are actually challenging as well, especially navigating the moving carnival rides - that damn sandwich ride took me so many tries to traverse it was unreal but so rewarding to finally do so

Vince is a really likeable character and it's a shame we never got to see a sequel of sorts or have him referenced by Xbox at all, he's unfortunately been left behind by history until this remaster which I'm so glad exists

Speaking of the remaster itself, the graphical and lighting improves really do this game justice. The camera issues people often bring up really aren't that bad and I was playing on steam deck for majority of my time

If your friend has a Valorant or League of Legends problem, tell them to download this and the next time they launch their game Riot Vanguard will ban them for third-party software. Problem solved!

"Style over substance" is so true with this game, the art direction and soundtrack are awesome but the actual gameplay is very shallow and boring

Once you've completed your first race it's just going to be that same loop over and over to grind for the next part of the game, unfortunately the racing isn't all that interesting or mechanically dense so it grows tired very quickly and the characters you interact with between money grinding have no real personality

The only reason I have 6 hours in this game is because I left it running when I went to the gym, I put the game down after about 4 or 5 races because it's just not fun. This concept would do better as an animated short than a game

Imagine PAYDAY but with a cheesy 80's crime aesthetic and your AI teammates can actually do stuff except shoot

The turf wars roguelite mechanic is actually really cool, stealth is not only a fun option but it actually has a impact on your run as it reduces the mission to mission investigation metre build up from Chuck Norris

The game is actually very polished minus the dialogue which is straight cheeks, the high stakes of your recruited team members potentially dying in your missions as you build them up elevates the risk and reward

Similar vibes to Saints Row without all the purple dildos

Supergiant releasing bangers as usual

Combat is intense and responsive, art is beautiful and the loop is a good time. Overwhelming Positive ratings for a reason, not much else to say, if you like rogue-likes this is one of the best ever made
