Have you ever played American/Euro Truck Sim and thought "I wish I could take this money and buy a cool car or do some other sort of work besides just trucking"?
Well, so have I.
And this is the game that lets you do that.
Trucking, tankers, dump trucks, flatbeds, mail trucks, pickups, taxis, police, tow trucks, and more.
And racing too. With like, sports cars. Yeah.

It is difficult for me to recommend this game and I'll jump right into why.

The racing gameplay of Tokyo Xtreme Racer largely consists of what is effectively drag races on long stretches of freeway with traffic. There are occasional corners, but its mostly straights.
After a certain difficulty spike, all opponents I challenge just leave me in the dust- even after looking up a guide and switching to a superior vehicle. Not even nitrous and max upgrades makes a difference. I can only make my car go so fast in a drag race, so I took to the community.

If you interact with the reddit or steam discussions, you'll find that veteran series players will call this "intentional" design. The game is "supposed" to be unfair, "thats what makes the game good".
It seems to be agreed by players that most late stage races are won by either sheer luck (hoping the opponent runs into another car), AI exploitation (causing the opponent to crash somehow), or just crashing into the opponent yourself.
Certain discussions have even emphasized a hope that the developer does not change this or make the game easier, as that would "ruin" the experience.
I've tried it their way, and racing the same opponent in an impossibly fast vehicle 7 times and finally winning on the 8th because he hit a another car is not fun.

I am new to this series, but a veteran to many racing games across numerous platforms and I can not recommend a game built with this formula.

There is more love, content, and hard work in this 4 dollar DLC than most 20+ dollar DLCs for games these days.

the only thing this game is missing is a little tv that you can play youtube videos on while you fish

Its Half-Life and SCP and Bloodborne and Resident Evil and its all a big co-op survival crafter thats a lot more dense than you're expecting.

PS1-core at it's finest, right down to the silly hidden cars.
The driving model is really tight which is not what I was expecting for a rally game, but its perfect- I love it.
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Is it fun? Yes.
Is it cute? Yes.
Is it worth 50 dollars? No way.
I don't think the most hardcore Spy x Family fan could justify that price for such a shallow and low-effort game.
Get it when it goes on sale for at LEAST half off.

Really good if you have a lot of internet friends and you wanna pretend you're hanging out IRL.
