Definitely some serious potential here, the demo is a great taste of what is hopefully to come.

Early Access Review
Great game for a group of friends who don't take things too seriously.

So long as you go into this realizing what you get, no more development or progress [excepting modders, of course], it's worth it. I find it great for relaxing, just playing a peaceful world and building a themed settlement. I bought this way, way back on Desura and was really excited as it moved forward. It's a shame it was abandoned, it had an excellent foundation and so much potential.

The closest we'll get to SOTN now that Konami is a gatcha-factory.

40k + Civilization - any sort of diplomacy = FUN!

Best to wait till the DLC is on sale, though. The faction packs are essential, the unit packs aren't far behind either.

I've played for about 5 hour so far, so this is an early, conflicted take.

Positive:
-->The lineage is clear, I can see the inspiration taken from XW, TF, XWvTF and XWA, and it is obvious the devs appreciated that fantastic series. It was an interview with the lead dev in which he showed how much he enjoyed the games listed above that convinced me to consider this worth buying.
-->The snubfighters are lovely, and being in the cockpit of best girl A-Wing again is a true joy.
-->The sound is great, and the option to disable almost every UI element goes a long way for immersion.
-->Having the ability to actually unlock items as opposed to microtransactions is nice.
-->It looks and feels like a Star Wars space sim, and even at only 5 hours I feel it was worth 40 USD.
-->It has me considering a VR headset. [Maybe that's a negative? :D]

Negative:
-->Is it just me, or is it weird that using a joystick in a space sim is the inferior choice? Since switching to controller I've been performing noticeably better.
-->Why is co-op so limited? My buddy and I spent 40+ minutes in a party trying to get into a match, no joy at all. Why are we unable to play us and AI wingmen vs all AI? It's really dampened our initial excitement, and is quite disappointing.
-->Maybe I'm just unintelligent, but the targeting wheel is a bit obtuse. Figured it out now, but did I miss that tutorial prompt or something?
-->In the same vein, I'm still not sure how the hell to give commands to my squadmates. I find myself fumbling to put out a simple "HELP" when I have multiple bogies on me, and dying due to losing focus. Could be user error, but I like to think I'm a bit above the level of drooling simpleton...
-->AGAIN, WHY IS CO-OP SO LIMITED? Why not coop practice, coop dogfight vs AI? Or even 1v1, why are matches locked to 5v5? Some flexibility would be really nice. I realize that most (?) of the gaming community is apparently solely focused on PVP deathmatch, but I like to play vs AI with good buddies, it really helps unwind. Playing online versus humans doesn't do it, there are way too many toxic trolls out there. I don't need my entertainment to ramp up my anxiety, no thanks.

Conclusion:
I'm wrestling with this, but I'm going to give this a YES recommendation because of the potential I see ahead for this. When all is said and done, it is fun, nostalgic, and I AM enjoying playing it. I'd just really like to be enjoying playing this WITH my best bud, since we both got it to...y'know, PLAY it together. I don't quite expect it to offer as much as the hundreds of hours we spent on X-TIE, but it is easier to drop in and play and the streamlining of everything is honestly nice in my encroaching old age. Devs, please fulfill the potential this has!

The WWII reboot is fun and pretty, but WAW takes me right back to the first time I played COD II, my intro to the series. It hits all the right notes and is the best WWII COD, and one of the best WWII setting FPS's, IMHO.
