You buy it for the visuals, not for the gameplay, and definitely not for the achievements.

Summary:

- Shallow, repetitive gameplay.
- Visuals that make it near-impossible to see the other vehicles.
- Grinding, a lot of grinding to collect in-game money.
- Terrible achievements.
- Cloud saves that don't work, so you will lose all your grinding progress.

Details:

I remember in the 1990s having a couple cheap LCD handheld toys where you would "drive" by dodging the other cars. That's essentially the entire gameplay of this game.

In this game, you pick a car, a racing mode, a track, and the keep driving in an infinite straight road while dodging other cars. Unlike the LCD game, however, the visibility is terrible, Due to excessive lighting effects without much thought about the gameplay itself, you can't see the other cars until they are very close to your vehicle. The very few fixed camera angles don't help much either.

And that's it, that's all the game. You earn points by passing close to other cars, you earn points by driving fast, you earn points by driving further/longer. Points become in-game money, which can be used to buy each one of the 20 vehicles. And also upgrades (both in cosmetic upgrades and stats upgrades) for each vehicle. Which means… a lot of grinding.

Upgrades a tied to each vehicle, so if you spend money on one, you have to spend again on another. And money doesn't come quickly, it requires many many many hours to collect enough money to buy everything. Many many hours of repetitive boring gameplay.

To make it worse, there are achievements for having $1000, $10000, $100000 and $1000000 of in-game money. That's not the total earned amount, that's a total unspent amount. Which means grinding forever doing the same things over and over and over without buying upgrades just to reach an absurdly large number.

Oh, and it can get even worse. Even though the store page claims the game supports "Steam Cloud", there are countless complaints on the forum about losing progress. It's fair to assume cloud saves don't work at all.

In conclusion, I got this game in a bundle, and I still feel like I'm wasting money, time and electricity.

Enjoyable little game that indeed contains 20 little mazes. But each one is unique and introduces a different game mechanic.

It is controlled with mouse and keyboard. One maze requires precise mouse movements. It is playable with Steam Deck controls, but requires remapping the Z (Undo) key, and requires bringing up the on-screen keyboard once. (The other keys are correctly mapped in the default controller layout.)

The game has a lot of charm and is almost good, but it didn't click for me and I believe it has a few design flaws.

- The AI for the enemies is weird. Sometimes they keep standing still not doing anything for a long time. Sometimes they will just combo you over and over.
- In some stages, some enemies appear out of nowhere without any kind of transition or animation.
- There are item drops when you hit and defeat enemies. There are health pickups, coins, gems. However:
- - The coins disappear quickly.
- - What's the purpose of coins? Just increasing the score? Why? Leaderboards? There are no extra lives nor anything in-game tied to the scores.
- - What's the purpose of each of the colored gems? I know the red ones are XP points, but I have no idea about the other colors.
- - The end-of-stage enemies (bosses) drop a large amount of gems and coins, but the game takes control away from the player before being able to collect them all.
- The in-game fight controls are complicated and confusing.
- There is no tutorial nor practice mode. All the game provides is 25 pages of in-game text, nothing else.
- The first stage starts with the player fully powered up, only to get all the powers removed for the next stage.
- The soundtrack is okay, but it's not memorable.

For me, the worst part is the controls.

There are three main attacks (Weak, Medium, Strong), and an SP button. Plus a button to switch lanes. Plus three other buttons for special attacks that can also be done by combining the basic buttons (M+H, H+SP, L+M). That's not terrible per se, but how to use them is complicated and badly explained.

Out of those basic button inputs, there are different attacks (or actions) depending if you are holding a direction and each of the buttons. Or maybe if you are also holding two of the buttons. (But not those two-button combinations that trigger a different special attack.) Or different if you press it right before the enemy attack. Or different if you press it right after the enemy attack. Or different if your SP bar is 100% or 200% full.

There are many combinations, and each character is quite unique and they all behave quite differently than each other. Which would be great, except because the game does a terrible job of explaining it all. Reading 25 pages on the menu/options interface isn't enough. The player needs a way to experience and practice those actions.

To make it worse, the game starts with the player being able to perform all the movements, only to have the character powers removed after the first boss. Afterwards, the player has to grind for XP in order to level up each character individually to unlock each movement from the skill tree. That sounds like a lot of work and a lot of grinding, as there are 10 main characters plus 2 additional DLC characters. Oh, and the player shouldn't spend all the points on the skill tree, it is also required to spend points increasing the Attack/Defense/Speed stats.

As a new player experience, you start experimenting with the controls on the first stage. You find some cool attacks. Then you try again on the next stage, and they don't work anymore. You start doubting if you learned those attacks, or if you are doing anything wrong with the buttons. In reality, it's just the skill tree making the learning process more difficult. By the time the player has enough XP to unlock certain attacks, the player has already learned to button-mash using just the basic attacks.

And remember how certain attacks are contextual? Good luck learning those without having any kind of practice mode, or without having a second player to battle against you.

My suggestion to new players: spam the Down+SP attack over and over. For some characters, this technique won't work. Good luck finding a different one. Also, spend many XP points increasing your attack.

I have to give a thumbs down review to this game. It had a lot of potential, but it's so inadequate for learning that it becomes frustrating. Having to grind for leveling up doesn't sound right for this kind of game. (Imagine if you had to level up Ryu and Ken in order to unlock the Hadouken and the Shoryuken?) In the end, after a few minutes of each play session, I just felt bored by mindlessly button mashing my way though the enemies.

If I could write a neutral review, this would be neutral.

This app is written using Unity, and I can feel the lag while painting. This means...
* The same app is available on multiple platforms, such as mobile.
* There is a short delay between the mouse interaction and the on-screen image. (Probably due to the whole rendering pipeline, double/triple buffer, vsync, etc.)
* The app feels "foreign" on the desktop. No native UI elements whatsoever. No tooltips either. No right-click context menus.

The app also includes (an optional) USD 12 in-app purchase for extra features, including "No ads". Well, at least on my machine, no ads were loaded anyway, even without purchasing. Maybe it's a text that applies to the mobile versions but not to the Steam version.

That USD 12 in-app purchase is only valid for the same platform. If you want the "pro" features on the other platforms, it's USD 18.

I'm writing the review because I think people should know about the engine and about the in-app purchases.

As a tool created by a solo developer, I admire what he accomplished. But as a "consumer" of a pixel art editor, I think there are better editors elsewhere. For instance, the whole Aseprite is smaller than the Unity runtime itself, and it launches faster and has no lag.

If you're looking for a cross-device pixel art editor that you can also use on a mobile device, this may be a good option for you. But if you'd rather have a more lightweight editor with a more desktop-focused interface and no lag, then look elsewhere. I'm in the later group.

10 tracks, 17 minutes and 54 seconds.

The tracks are mostly forgettable. Many have some annoying sound loop playing repeatedly throughout the track.

The first track (Action) is the exception, it is unlike all the others. Somehow, even though it is a 320kbps MP3, it sounds muffled as if it was recorded in a much lower quality.

Just like the game, skip the soundtrack. You're not missing much.

It's okay to spend a few minutes for a "free" game, but it is not good:

- The UI elements of the settings screen are being drawn beyond the background.
- The stroke width of the drawing is inconsistent, sometimes thicker, sometimes thinner.
- When zoomed out, the drawing shows ugly aliasing.
- There are only a few cat graphics, which are then copy-pasted throughout the drawing. I'm tired of finding the same licking cat over and over again.
- Only a small part of each cat is visible. Sometimes they don't even look like a cat at all. This is the worst mistake in this game.
- Bad hitboxes: sometimes the game doesn't register the click on the cat even though I'm certainly clicking on it. I have to try clicking elsewhere.
- For a few cats, the yellow area that gets painted after clicking on the cat does not correspond correctly to the cat graphic.

The main issue of the game is how the cats are drawn. Sometimes only the rear and the tail, sometimes a tiny bit of the face. The cats aren't as clearly "visible", and thus it feels like the game is unfair.

Yet another solid entry on the Rusty Lake series.

If you don't know Rusty Lake, it's a series of point-and-click puzzle games. The series started as Flash games playable in the browser, with a formula similar to the many "escape room" browser games. Yet, Rusty Lake stands out from the rest due to the well-thought game design and puzzle design; due to their unique and clean art style; and due to their somewhat bizarre universe.

If you are still unsure, go play the Demo, or go play any other Rusty Lake game, either on Steam or anywhere else (e.g. mobile devices).

This game is poorly designed and poorly implemented.

- The level design is bad.
- The level graphics are bad. Sometimes impossible to know what is background and what is foreground.
- The enemy placement is bad.
- The enemy collision is bad.
→ If you jump on top of two enemies, you get hit. You can only jump on one enemy per time.
→ If you get hit, you get temporary invincibility for a few seconds. You can't attack enemies during this time.
- All enemies respawn shortly after being killed. After a while, you figure out it's easier to ignore enemies and tank any hits.
- The end-of-level score and 3-star rating isn't very clear, and quite frustrating.
- All the secondary collectibles disappear after you complete the primary objective, which means you can't collect them for higher score.
- Have I mentioned the level design is bad? You have a time limit, but you are also very limited in your movement options. (Often having to wait for moving platforms or having to take a very long route.)
- The sequence of moving platforms are not synchronized. You have to wait for a few cycles until the platforms align favorably. And then you get knocked off by a flying enemy.

Well, at least the game is quite stable: I didn't notice any crashes nor game-breaking glitches.

Many freezes. Terrible menu system. But you might enjoy this game.

I still couldn't get the achievement for "exiting the game", because I can't exit! The game freezes (or soft-locks) by hiding the menu and keeping the music player functional. So far, I have to force-close the game. I also got many other freezes while playing, requiring again to force-close.

The menu system is full of cryptic icons. I know it looks like a funny joke on the trailer, but in reality I have to keep the official "guide" open to decipher the meaning of the icons. Even old 8-bit/16-bit games had more intuitive menus, because I could read them!

The controls aren't great, and definitely are not explained well. I still couldn't figure out if I can shoot, because nothing happens despite pressing the button.

Overall, good visuals, good idea (reminds me of "Race the Sun"). Congratulations to the solo developer for building something this impressive as a hobby! It's bigger, better, and more pleasing than anything I've built. But I still can't recommend this game because I had too much trouble trying to play it.
