Highly reccomend it if you have friends to play with, if you're not sure if you'll like it and/or don't have friends to play it with, install an android emulator (I recommend BlueStacks) and play through there for free.

It's not pay-to-win, the money needed for upgrades you will get along the way.

Edit: I wrote this when I had 40 hours in the game, more than 200 hours later I stand behind what I said, the game never was and never will be pay-to-win and is a great game to play by yourself or with friends.

At first, it's really frustrating but if you go up the difficulties slowly and stick to your comfort zone it can be really fun.
Obviously you will have to watch tutorials for certain aspects, but learning the basics is pretty easy.
