If you get this game on sale and have a friend or two get it with you, then you are in a for a blast. You're gonna grief the hell out of your comrades with Friendly Fire at first, so be prepared for that. Once you get yourself into the swing of it (heh), you'll be slaying all day. Also: when you kill someone, they drop their weapon, which is ridiculously fun. i wonder why it's not a more common mechanic?

It's a shame that development for this game fell to the wayside, but don't let that dissuade you from trying out this gem with some buddies. 11/10 would cut my buddies down with a flaming great sword again.

#1: buy this on sale or you'll regret it
#2: it's nowhere near as bad as is it is made out to be, though the content is kinda like the three Hobbit movies; thin, like butter spread over too much bread
#3: each class if fun, dynamic, and have a fair amount of playstyle options
#4: most of the DLC for this game is garbage and you should avoid it; only the DLCs like the Tomb Kings add any real meat to this boney game and they should be bought at a massive discount
#5: it is an enjoyable experience but it is better with friends, so I guess good luck finding 3 of your friends to con into getting this?

I should start by saying that I purchased this after it left early access, on sale. Some of the other reviews here mention a lack of content, to which I would like to say: there is a great bare bones here and room for growth. This game has great combat mechanics, decent variability with perks and builds, and a lot of amazing cooperative play.

Isometric, hack n' slash, undead horde smashing. Think Diablo 3 and Left 4 Dead had a baby and you're there.

Update 10/14/20: Lots of new players don't seem to know about the Legacy mode, which you have to activate from the General settings menu. It adds a Survival mode that definitely changes the gameplay a little and allows for some new experiences. It may not make up for the perceived lack of content, but it helps!

A Quick update at +90 hours: still loving this game, after several completions you'll see the "Real" ending and a whole new span of endgame opens up for you with increased complexity, chamber modifiers, and some interesting surprises. This game is in my top 5 of 2020.

Do you need an excuse to stay up until 3am for "oNe moRe RuN"? Do you enjoy challenging gameplay with lots of options for character buffs, weapons, and boons? Do you like a persistently growing storyline, RPG-style? Ever wanted to give Aphrodite some Ambrosia or here Achilles tell you how proud of you he is? I'm telling you: this game has all that and more. The different remarks you get from the Cthonic gods and lesser heroes that walk the halls of Hades when you return after a defeat, for example, will range from sarcastic and mean to downright pitying.

It's like The Secret Life of Pets but with guns.

This is one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. Between the satisfying melee combat to the deep, grim dark lore expressed by the characters via banter, there is a lot here to offer. Have you ever wondered how it would feel to be a slayer dawi, abandoning your duty to find honor in death, wailing on a bunch of ratmen like a teppanyaki chef? Have you ever wanted to pull fire out of your blood and listen to the glorious screams of the pact-sworn chaos worshipping scum? Bro, Vermintide's got you.

This game has not had a perfect record; some issues with a few consistent (or returning) bugs and some really maladjusted forum commentators might give you a feeling of wariness, and that's understandable. The developers have addressed many issues and are continuing to release fresh, exciting content on a regular basis while keeping the gameplay interesting.

I'm at about 2500 hours and I do not see myself quitting this game soon. Sigmar, bless my ravaged left mouse button.

Update 11/28/23:
It's been an amazing couple of years watching this game grow. Honestly, if you are on the fence: get it. These Devs have an amazing track record and are worthy of your attention and support.

This game is a helluva lot of fun, especially with a group of 4; it's balanced; the developers are open and honest, clever and a lot of fun; you can play solo or with a group; there is a steady stream of new and fun content. Do not pass up the chance to try out this gem of a game.

This game is fun, engaging, and has a lot to offer when it works, which is most of the time if you're solo and almost never in coop. If you get in a group you will likely disconnect, but don't worry the handy reconnect function won't work at all. Heck, if you even manage to make it through a map with a group, maybe your loot will even show up in your pack. No? Oh, just go on ahead an reboot from the start menu of the game!

Also: if you want to play campaign missions with your buddies, y'all better be at the EXACT SAME POINT of the storyline or everyone will have to go back and replay old missions until everyone is. Doesn't that sound lovely?
