Originally played the game on my friend's switch and now decided to get it during the Summer Sale. Very fun game to play while on vacation or as a time waster.

CS:GO Review
2-3 years ago and I wouldn’t be able to recommend the game enough. Nowadays, not so much. Valve is clearly starting to give CSGO the TF2 treatment, especially in non-EU regions.

For starters, you absolutely NEED to have prime to even get a chance to play against other legitimate players. If you download the game to try it out, you will NOT have the same experience that I did around 5-6 years ago. You will find cheaters in every mode, from flying scoutsman to competitive. Buying prime will mitigate the issue to a minimum, but it’s clear to me that VAC either sucks or is way to slow. There are VAC waves every few months, and there will be noticeably less cheaters for a few days after that, but the cycle will repeat. Basically, prime is necessary to avoid seeing more cheaters than legitimate players. Regardless, the barrier to prime was made significantly easier so there are more cheaters there than there would be otherwise.

Cheaters aside, matchmaking is also completely broken in NA and AU. Firstly, the rank distribution has shifted to put almost everyone in silver and gold nova. Getting to the guardian ranks is difficult and anything higher is nearly impossible. There will be someone who is Faceit rank 10 and ESEA rank G chilling in silver along with players who would be better with a controller, with everything in between. I often find myself asking, “how is this person in my rank?” This issue is very apparent and is often talked about, so Valve is very aware. Yet, they do nothing about it. It is not very fun to play unless you manage to get into a game where everyone is around the same skill level. I’m unsure about SA, but I’ve heard EU is relatively normal.

Those MAJOR issues aside, the game is usually great. There are still a few annoying bugs, but the big ones are fixed pretty quickly.

If you’re looking for a game to play competitively or for fun, with a developer that CARES, try Valorant. The matchmaking works wonders and the anti-cheat does work(albeit intrusively). Otherwise, CS:GO might be alright for you.

If Valve gets their ♥♥♥♥ together and fixes these two(+) major issues, then CS:GO will continue to remain the best competitive fps for normal players. Until then, Valorant will be the next best option, even with its own glaring issues.
