The game should not have all those bad reviews anymore. It runs fine now: With my GTX 970 I play it maxed out on 1080p with mostly 60 fps. The framerate can drop while driving with the Batmobile with all the Nvidia Gameworks effects activated, but even then it remains playable at all times and drops to about 45 fps at worst. If you have a problem with that, you can deactivate the Gameworks smoke. All in all it's one of the best looking games I know and I enjoy it so far.

Used to be a great game, but modding is an essential part of Skyrim and paid mods are going to destroy it.

If you just want to play the main mission before The Phantom Pain, this game is pretty short: It will probably take about 2 hours to complete it the first time. A purchase might not be worth it in that case. But if you want to recruit special soldiers for The Phantom Pain, clear all side missions, all side objectives and all challanges, etc. then there is a lot to do. It takes quite some time to finish it 100 %. The PC version is definetely the best looking version of Ground Zeroes and the port is very well done. 9/10

The game might have some flaws, but overall it's pretty much what I expected from Duke Nukem: Over the top, silly and just fun. Not at all a game that deserves a metascore of ~50/100.

The interaction with the game world is great. You can lift weights, play pinball or pool, sign autographs, drink beer, take a leak, etc. Especially the beginning and the strip club level shine in this regard. This interaction with the world makes the game pretty unique. The action is solid and the fights are pretty challenging (I play on hard mode). The only thing that's not fun is the driving: The game is filled with driving sequences and they get a little annoying over the time.

Pros:

- Great interaction with the environment

- Silly Duke Nukem humor

- Solid shootouts

- Simple retro fps: No unfitting skill/experience system (The new Shadow Warrior is doing this unfortunately...)

- Lenghty campaign: Much longer than your average modern fps

- Cool weapons: Shrinking cannons, freezing cannons, etc. The game keeps the cool weapons from Duke 3d

- Variety of different environments: Casinos, deserts, organic alien environments, etc. The levels don't get boring



Cons:

- Dated graphics: especially outdoors, but the game has its moments (sometimes it actually looks good).

- Almost no blood! This really bugs me. Enemies often explode into meaty pieces, but leave no blood decals. I would expect much more blood from Duke Nukem.

- Unfitting weapon restrictions / regenerating health: Strange modernizations in an otherwise old-school game. It should use health packs and it should let you carry all your weapons at the same time. While initially you were only allowed to carry two weapons, a patch changed that number to four. Still: This shouldn not be restricted at all.

- Tedious driving sequences

- No mod support: Duke Nukem 3D had a great modding community, and it even has today. Not supporting mods for this one is just stupid.

~75/100 would be a fitting score, I would go as far as giving it 80+.

While the game itself is fun, the PC port is terrible.

Saints Row 2 was released in 2009, but I can't play it at a constant framerate with a fairly modern system in 2014. While Saints Row 3 and 4 run smoothly at 60 frames per second, Saints Row 2 regulary drops to ~30 fps. While 30 fps wouldn't make it unplayable, the constant frame rate fluctuation does. The only "solution" I've come across so far is capping the frame rate through a third party tool.

While it is playable with an Xbox 360 controller, it is poorly implemented. Whenever a message pops up telling you which button to press, it shows you the keyboard keys -- really stupid, since the game was originally released on Xbox 360 (the mod "Gentlemen of the Row", among other things, fixes this issue and is generally recommended). Should you have played Saints Row 3/4 before Saints Row 2 and you want the same button mapping on your 360 controller for this one, you're out of luck due to conflicting button functions (you end up shooting and accelerating in your car at the same time).

This game needed a lot of patching, but support for this abomination of a port was quickly stopped -- leaving not only a broken game, but also a complete lack of DLC (which is available on the console versions).

Don't buy this port, no matter how cheap it is or how much you like the other Saints Row games.
