To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand why The Last Jedi is terrible. The humour is extremely on-the-nose, and with a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will turn a typical viewer’s head away from the screen. There’s also Luke's nihilistic outlook, which is horribly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The Star Wars fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly see why none of this works, to realise that they’re not just awful- they're intellectually harmful to our growth. As a consequence people who like The Last Jedi truly ARE idiots- of course they would appreciate, for instance, the misery in Rose's awful catchphrase “We're going to win this war not by fighting what we hate, but saving what we love!,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons.
