This visual novel is basically about a talented protagonist that has lost his desire to nurture his own talent in Kendo, then coincidentally gets transported back to a time where pride and honor are still important qualities of a swordsman. He is forced to go through many hardships, but then tragedy strikes and he was given another chance through time traveling. Beyond this is major spoilers, but let's just say that he struggles mentally because of this 'curse'. He goes through hardship and self-loathing, and yet he seeks to save those he cared about; but at the same time, seek for salvation. A journey where his personality constantly changes depending on the new experiences he continues to go through, while looking for a way back to his own time.

The first three chapters was the struggle, and the last two chapters can be considering the turning points of the story. I honestly think the first three chapters could've stood on it's own, but it is still good to see a continuation of the character's interactions in the last two chapters.

The first three chapters covers three of the four girls with their own romantic routes. The forth is the revealing chapter that gives us the answers. The last chapter is the last heroine and the finale. I won't say which chapter belongs to which heroine, so you'll have to find out yourself. This VN has an enforced playing order, so you cannot choose whose route you can play first.

So... Tokyo Babel is about a protagonist, led by a series of encounters, gains a sense of self and strength to keep on living for the future. It is based on a post-apocalyptic HELL/HEAVEN setting, and A LOT of lore is involved, so if you are interested in that area of study, then you would absolutely love reading how the story here plays out.

I really enjoyed the story-telling of Tokyo Babel. Every character had their own conflicts, and their own conclusions. The last (locked) route in particular, gave every character's conflicts and conclusions the brightest shine. A lot of these scenes outside of the action scenes, were mesmerizing to read. When I mean by outside the actions scenes, I do want to express that it was tedious for me to read the actions scenes, because it felt like the action scenes were being stretched much longer than it should've been.

The story about a boy who finds an abandoned robot in a futuristic society, where robots are the norm. The boy hates the constant changes of society, where digital technology are more frequently used these days, and hiring robots to take over job positions are becoming a trend. "An imitation should remain as an imitation" of the real thing, as the saying goes... It's a heartbreaking and heartwarming story.

Having read Planetarian, I was glad to have read this as well. It was satisfying. Also the same as Planetarian, this is a Kinetic Visual Novel.

Story about a boy who hates his present surroundings, until he met a girl who had a personality that was the complete opposite of his own. There are 5 main routes, and 8 side-scenarios which are drastically shorter. If you complete them all, there will be a surprise for you at the end on this, which will appear on the title menu. CLANNAD is full of characters who act wise, comical, immature, and their actions can be very loveable or cringeworthy. All of them are commonly kind though, to an extent where you will want to support them or help them no matter what.

Enjoyment: 10/10

I played my fair share of visual novels, and rarely touch indie visual novels, and my verdict is that this was a pretty nice read-through. It had what you would get in any common mystery/horror novel. The scary deaths, creepy descriptions, CG of important scenes, and high quality music.

but... I wouldn't recommend this to anyone I know.

The protagonist, and (most of) the character interactions in the story were horribly written (from myself as a reader's perspective). The protagonist makes way too many stupid decisions to the point of train wreck. Some of the characters had their moments, but too few to point out. Most of the time, the interactions felt too forced, or should I say 'robotic'. That was the feeling I got when I was reading through the course of the characters developments as the story went on.

The backstories for many of these characters were well done, and I was touched. Music is really the highlight of this visual novel, but that is where my compliments end. If it were only the soundtrack, I would recommend purchasing; but you would need to read the visual novel to understand the feelings and emotions behind each track which is a matter of course..

Normally, voice-acting in visual novels can compensate for a lot of things, especially the amount of emotion required to be portrayed during the course of the story; but since indie visual novels don't normally have the funds and leeway to make voice-acting available, I never held any hopes since the beginning. Of course, there are few exceptions like Katawa Shoujo, which also didn't have voice-acting but was beautifully written, drawn, composed, and put together. It seems Notch isn't one of those few exceptions.

Half of the visual novel is a telling of shenanigans, while the latter half splits to five heartbreaking stories where 'the fire really hits the fan'. The gist of it is about a protagonist being played the fool by students with abnormal personalities, having the most sane personality out of the rest of the students of the school. You are led to solving a trauma for one of the five students you decide on, the trauma that resulted in their abnormal personality..

The shenanigans portion of the game before the route splits off might seem like your normal everyday conversations, but there are a huge number of hints being dropped from each and every character's lines as the conversation flows on; which hints to what their trauma could be from behind their facades. Those hints are leading to 'the calm before the storm' before it actually happens; so if you are perceptive, you should find a few questions arising over your head why each character is acting the way they are. Well, just sit back and enjoy reading the slice-of-life humor, and look forward to the impending drama if you just want to read something fun instead of becoming a detective.

Story about a boy who rejected his mother, got dropkicked by his father, leaving the old world behind to be invited to an ever-changing all-girls world by a princess to save her kind from ruin with romance. Flowery drama, amusement, a long cat with a hat, abduction, and yandere eyes incoming.

Visual novel is split into 4 different routes after the common route depending on your choices.

It was beautiful yet sorrowful. A very straightforward pure romance VN between two people during a time of impending doom of Earth. It is about a girl and a boy who decided to stay behind on a planet that is nearing it's last days. It's pretty short especially for fast readers, but this VN's quality is professtional-level. Art is amazing. The simple animations stand out. Voice-acting especially, are solid. Slice-of-life is dominate with a tones of drama and a feeling of crisis.
