My favorite game of all time and finally i have decided to quit.

I have piled insane amount of time in this game spite what my profile says, had a old profile it got stolen due to the phishing links...blah, blah, blah me being stupid, blah blah blah. in general i have for sure a bit over 4000 hours in this game. Started playing as soon as it became free to play and this review is written the same day i have deleted it. Doesnt mean much , but to me this game was a lot of my everyday life, stairway of gaming for me and so on. starting out as a complete useless player who didnt know what even each class did for a week or two and went all the way to actual highlander team and earning few medals and to me thats a huge success from a game that was such a big part of my everyday long ago. I quitted highlander and didnt even play much games in general because i have a job and quite a bit of responsibilities. Still getting home after a long day at work and playing this to just relax was great.

The reasons i have gave up on this are quite obvious.

1. Unbalance

I do not consider having a good game only when you win, i truly believe and have had games where i lose and i still say it was a genuinely good game because i still had my entertainment and fun out of it. The kind of unbalanced games i am talking about are those where you cant get out of your spawn because the entire enemy team is camping it. We all hated having teams scrambled back in a day, but that old system actually worked, now just moving the top player or any player to the team who has left due to them losing does not make a difference and in fact it gives even less initiative to keep playing when you are in that position.

2. cheaters

The game is falling apart due to this, the game has constant stream of cheaters, today before this i had 4 games in a row with not just only one cheater, but at least 3, making it impossable to do the usual "just kick the cheater" , because the bots automatically vote "no" and even if the rest of the team vote "yes", usually it doesnt go through and basically the lobby/game is ruined. the times i get games without cheaters usually end up being really unbalanced, at this point those actually good games are getting rare where both sides put up a fight and do their best. The cheater problem started long ago, always had those, but at this point it has went overboard. i wish something was done about that, but time has shown that nothing is going on right now and i personally do not believe much will be done.

3. Updates

3.1 Terrible ideas
I do not care for content updates that much, they are nice and all ,but i would not even care if there would not be any new weapons and maps added. I dislike the updates that changed the lobby system and how you queue for a game, its absolutely ruined. A idea to make the game more modern? it lost its basic roots by that. Used to be able to just jump into any random server you want , your friends could join too whenever they wish. that actually worked and the simplicity was great. This lobby system is terrible for this kind of a game. People basically have to wait till the map changes for them to have any chance to join your game or other way around spite there actually being spots free on enemy or on your own team. The balance again, i had multiple times where i would honestly join the enemy team because they were losing , not too hard, just needed that extra push and i would join that team to have a bit of a challange for myself. there are even spots free for me to join , but i cant , because of the fact you can no longer change teams by yourself. Instead the game switches the medic on your team ruining your own entire team composition or that new player, who usually is a spy or engineer and does not help out the whatsoever, because he lacks the game knowledge to do any kind of impact or builds a sentry at spawn on the last point while the defence has just started. I do not dislike or hate new players who do not know exactly what they are doing, everybody has to start somewhere, but putting them on the losing team makes it worse. Scramble actually worked because you get good players (most of the time) on both sides when it happened, switching just 1 good player to the team of people who just started the game wont help much.

3.2 Needed updates

It would have been nice if the game had a lot of more bugfix updates as example the "civilian mode" , actually better hitboxes which would be better rounded around the character model instead of being boxes that are way bigger than the player itself and on the missing hitbox on engineers crotch area (i honestly dont know if that is still in the game). I hate random crits because and a lot of people do too, i wish those would be removed because there is a huge part of the community from what i have seen wanting them gone. Perhaps these are not needed updates as it gives the game its own quirks and making it stand out a bit.

Right now im done with this game because lately i just get more irritated than anything else trying to play this spite the fact of how much i love it, due to all of these things i mentioned above. To some its just a game, to me this is quite a lot therefore i wrote this review. At the current state its totally not recommended to get into it anymore. i hope things change, survived 13 years, if right minds change it a bit and fix it, can survive another 13 for sure.
