Really fun game. I especially enjoy the feature where I get to nuke cities until they just completely disappear. I also only ever play as America because all other civilizations are subpar compared to them, both in-game and in real life. Murica.

All jokes aside (not really joking, but hey, whatever), let's get into the review. I got this game during a Steam sale with all DLC included for about 60% off.

Pros:

Probably my favorite Civ game since Civ II all those years ago- really polished, really fun, really nice.

Game graphics are pretty good.

DirectX 9/10/11 compatibility a plus, especially on older machines.

Music is fantastic. If you like classical music as much as I do, then you're going to love this game. Look up the soundtrack online and you'll see what I mean. I personally suggest the Americans if you want the best musical soundtrack (Aaron Copland, Bach, Bizet, Grieg, Dvorak, etc.) because it changes from civ to civ, but look online at the tracklist and make a decision for yourself.

You can get plenty of replayability through the multiple scenarios and worlds and civilizations. Just make sure that you go outside once in a while, okay?

The easier modes are good for learning the game, and the hard modes are really, really mentally taxing. It's great for every IQ level.

Multiplayer is really fun and the way that the turns are mapped out work very well. It's great for extended play sessions with friends.

Cons:

Certain civilizations (not going to give away which ones) really excel in certain eras to the point where you can't really counter it. Not going to give away which ones, but it's pretty obvious.

Multiplayer could have less issues with connections. Multiple times the connections dropped and my friends were kicked from the game. Very frustrating.

Game has multiple freezing issues, but they're only annoying- they clear up after a minute. Just wait and don't close out of the game until you've given the computer some time to work through it. Tends to happen more the longer into the game you are.

The game is surprisingly graphics and CPU heavy and wears on your rig a bunch. My GTX 980 Ti had some lag issues with the graphics, then during a longer play session actually died. I had to RMA it, then when I got the replacement card it had a few of the same issues (although definitely not as much). I did check the rest of my system and I've had few to no issues with any other game. I suggest making sure your fans on your graphics card/cooling on your CPU are enabled as it wears heavily on both of them.

The game lags heavily. Not sure why. If you have an SSD, I suggest you use it for this game if you intend to play it a lot.

I don't recommend that you try streaming/recording this game unless you have a really beefy system or you have a separate pc for the actual game capture- the game doesn't have a "windowed" version that works well and with the wear that the game already puts on your system, I wouldn't risk it especially if you don't have one of the more recent i7 processors (4790k or later).

The game is night and day different with the DLC. I recommend that you get it with the DLC included during a Steam sale or through Humble Bundle/Humble Store- don't purchase unless you do. It's very expensive otherwise.

Overall, the game would be a 9/10 if there were less bugs. As the game stands, it's a 7.5/10. Still worth buying if you like this sort of game (and I do), and I'm excited to see what they'll do with Civ 6 (because Beyond Earth blew)

CS:GO Review
I play it obsessively. I spend way too much money on skins. Terrorists are OP. 9/11 would recommend
