This is the fourth iteration of the game, and the online mode is the only content in this iteration, yet it doesn't work properly. If you select the "best quality" option for matchmaking, you still have at least a 50% chance of getting a match with 300 ping and teleporting players.

I also find the DLC policy scummy as hell. This iteration is there to rekindle interest in the series, but putting old DLC live on release day is very unattractive.

Buy it and see for yourself why this is such a highly regarded masterpiece. Use a sale if need to. I love it!

would have been nice if they hadn't already streamlined the difficulty to: "use one skill and everything dies" at my arrival.

Should have more diversity in graphics, I mean come on.
"You see the same place that was booming last night with people on the dancefloor, now it's empty and desolate."
AND IT'S LITERALLY THE SAME WALLPAPER AS THE NIGHT BEFORE!

Other than that lower than low budget ♥♥♥♥, it's fine, for a book.

Seduced a guy to let me pass.

Me: "Surely a big guy like you isn't scared of someone as little as me."
Him: "Uchh. Dudeeee.... "

(I'm playing a dude)

Now really,

GOOD
-Story
-Lore
-Characters
-Romance
-Immersion
-Atmosphere

BAD
-Worst level design. Same corridors, same lame enemies over and over
-Boss fights are simply uninspired and dumb
-Some quests
-Last third portion of the game is run and gun. NOT the strength of this games mechanics.

The quest where you are forced to find the Nosferatu and become a sewer rat, totally wasn't in tune with my Toreadon character and the way it was forced upon me, was not well executed.
Not only that, but fighting the snuff film creator guy is impossible without a flamethrower. If you don't have the flamethrower at this point, you are done. Can't go back unless you load an older save and look up where to get it. STUPID!
Not to mention that this one is the lamest bossfights of all in the entire game. Jesus. Really.
Not to mentionthat fighting two armed sh*theads isn't fun at all for 3 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ HOURS!

"The Epic of the Ankaran Sarcophagus" is the worst quest I have encountered in a videogame to date. Bad combat system, this game has. But yet the designers thought it was smart to spam you with endless samey sewers in which you are forced to endlessly fight the same mobs over and over and over again. Moving forward.... sloooooooooowly....

Played Demon‘s Souls, Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne. Loved them. Here I died of boredom.
Why?

-Unconnected world
You get your fire level, water level, sand level, Forrest level... bland bland bland. No location feels like it‘s real, unlike those of Dark Souls 1.
-Unengaging Lore (there barely is any)
-Unengaging characters
-Clunky unresponsive combat which is even worse on PC for some reason. (Well, we know by know Namco sucks at PC ports)
-Easy bosses except Darklurker
-Crap sound design
Footsteps aren‘t synced with enemies movements. You constantly feel as though there’s some giant there when there‘s just one of those bugged Heide Knights. (Yes, they‘re bugged. No, it‘s not their „combat style“ they don’t find their paths and they ghost hit without hitting.)

Put a laggy PvP on top of that and voila: you get Tomohiro Shibuya and
Yui Tanimura‘s interpretation of what Dark Souls is supposed to be.

Played this back in the day. So much nostalgia for this. It's an incredible piece of art, yet it has been years since I played it. I don't know how accurate this assessment is anymore. I will most likely play it again now that I have got it on steam, but I'm not sure. My respect for this game is so huge. For everyone who has played Heavy Rain and likes games of the interactive movie genre this is a must play. It's 1,79€ in the current steam sale so I suggest giving it a shot. Also if you got under 2 hours you can refund without giving a reason so go ahead.
