This is a game series I have loved for years and have played to death.

It's a janky and intentionally corny series that reuses assets and slowly builds on each prior installment. It's hard for me to actually recommend because I know that for a brand new player, EDF will be tough to get used to. Things are made purposely clunky and the control scheme is unrecognizable compared to any other shooter. The game largely revolves around learning how to get the most out of what you have, usually through some method of animation canceling or using momentum to keep moving when the game would normally hold you in place.

That being said, EDF 6 is as smooth as the series has even been. Additional weapon slots open up some variety previous games lacked due to feeling locked into bringing what's functional rather than having to make room for something gimmicky or niche in use.

EDF 6 is a great game if you are a fan of the series and won't steer you wrong. If you are a wholly new player, I would suggest picking up EDF 5 on sale and seeing if you like that. It'll lack some new features of 6, but the gameplay will be largely similar. That and the story of EDF 6 is surprisingly deeply tied into 5's and I feel you will miss out on the whole picture to not have the context.

Extremely fun and unique game. Semi-realistic attention to detail that you usually mostly only find in milsims, in an arcade-y shooter, with an expectation of hilarious friendly fire and explosive mishaps. Usually long missions that make use of communication and map plotting. Honestly, I feel like it ticks the boxes if you wanted to play a milsim but did not want to be saddled with the strict realism milsims tend to replicate and with mission times not in the multiples of hours.

Possible downsides I have is even as a satire, the explicit setting of being embedded in a fascist regime doing pretty horrible things with enthusiasm sometimes gets a little unsettling, but that's only been an issue for me if I'm stretching for a downside.

Also Sony tried to kill the game for a quick boost to PSN registration numbers, presumably to impress stockholders, but backpedaled. So hopefully that never comes back.

A F2P game that follows a stereotypical, terribly designed microtransaction model that immediately puts you up against a pay wall. What is worse is the horrible driving and shooting mechanics.

Damn good, but maybe not as good as the first.

This game is the greatest FPS Loot-fest ever; practically the only one.
