What a fun game! I love the character designs and dialogue. This is pretty much the video game I would have made if I could make games, but I can't make games, so I'm glad this game was made by someone who can make games. I love the spooky atmosphere, the level design, and finding all the little collectibles. It might be a super easy game, but gosh darn it, I had fun playing it.

Man, I absolutely loved this journey. The gameplay? Fantastic. The soundtrack? Immaculate. The main character? Badass.
Game is metal as hell. Highly recommend.

This is a stupid fun game. Progressing from a wimp who you're absolutely terrified of dying to feeling like an absolute god when you really get into it is a great feeling. I highly recommend this as a great time waster. Easy to accidentally sink *looks at hours played* 30 hours into.

I played Ultimate Fishing Simulator for an episode of a podcast I was recording a few months ago, and I haven't stopped playing. This has become my go-to game to just relax and have a good time. I absolutely love catching all the different fish, and still get excited when I hook a big one. It's great just to play while listening to some tunes or watching your favorite streamers. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who enjoys fishing at any capacity. Hands down my favorite fishing game of all time.

This game is absolutely beautiful. The graphics and ambient music work extremely well together to make a really relaxing vibe while playing the game. The controls are great, and responsive. The character design is super cute. I'm super partial to Glidey. That guy is the real MVP. The mechanic of switching between two characters to solve puzzles was super fun, and I'd love to see more of that in games. I would absolutely suggest this game to anyone who enjoys a fun platformer.

It’s a really cute game. I think the polygonal style actually holds up relatively well here compared to other games. I really like the character designs, and the main flying thing was always really cute and drew me in as a kid. It’s neat to actually finally play the game that I thought looked so neat back then.

It definitely doesn’t play the way I expected it to. It feels more like a sidescroller in 3d than an actual 3d game. What I mean by that, you only seem to be allowed to move in 2 axes at a time. Either the X and Y axis, or the X and Z axis. I haven’t seen a section where all three are used at once yet.

It took me a while to figure out that you need to collect those little orb things to destroy the weird cylinder thing in order to move on. It took a few stages, but I found the game becoming super endearing to me. It’s adorable to look at, and once you get used to it (which I thought wouldn’t happen) the controls aren’t terrible. The maps are a little confusing, so learning optimal routing is probably important if you want to get over a C rank in most levels. I only cared about C ranking to be able to access the final stages, so I wasn’t too fussed. I was able to get C rank on every stage by the second attempt, sans the final stage. The final stage actually had a pretty tight timer.

The bosses are weird. I liked most of them once I figured out what I was supposed to be doing, but the goal was not immediately clear. My favorite was the one from Elliot’s water stage, where the boss looked like a viking lady fish thing, and you had to hit her, and throw her back through walls until you broke the final one. It was kinda neat.

The final boss design was pretty cool looking, though he was a very simple boss.

One thing I wasn’t aware of, after beating the final boss with both characters, it unlocks Christmas NiGHTS, which is really just a cute reskin of the first level, but it’s so dang cute. Everything is super festive, and it just made me feel all warm and fuzzy.

The story of this game… is kinda non-existent. I’m really not sure who it’s for. You’re a couple of little kids who have little goals they want to accomplish in real life, and when you beat the final boss, they wake up, and are energized and focused and able to accomplish those goals. Claris wants to be an actress, Elliot wants to be good at basketball. It’s very simplistic, and like I said, I’m not sure who the story is for. Obviously a younger demographic, but even knowing me from that age, the story wouldn’t have done anything for me.

The character designs are really cute. The NiGHT is somehow iconic, even though I’ve never played the game before. I have always known the NiGHT, and thought it was super cool looking. Still do after playing it. Claris and Elliot are generic anime kids, which is fine.

The music is cute and fits the themes of the levels. Though that song in the credits… hahaha. It was cute, but I swear to god the kids they got to sing it were pitchy as hell. The adult singers sounded really good too, which is the wild part to me.

Overall, I really enjoyed it. I would recommend it out with caveats. Yes, it’s dated. Yes the story is dumb. But overall it’s super charming, and a pretty fun and relaxing game to play through. And as completely stupid as this sounds, Christmas NiGHTS adds a half-star to my overall rating of the game. 8/10.

Dragon Quest 11 is one of my favorite games of all time at this point. This was my second time playing through it, the first on the Switch. This time, I had Steam achievements to chase, which only enhanced the experience. I love nearly everything about this game.
The classic turn-based combat we've come to expect and love from the Dragon Quest series is executed to perfection here. The characters are fun and well developed, and it's a joy to watch them interact with each other. The graphics are lovely and the gameplay is fantastic. The music sets the tone, and really adds to the whole story.
The story is good, nothing extremely life-changing, but fun and engaging. There's only a few story beats I really didn't care for, but the game does a good job of keeping the pace of the story moving while letting you reflect on what happened before the next major point.
One thing DQXI does a lot better than other JRPGs I've played is keep the level grinding to a minimum. You're pretty set just playing through and doing the battles as they come. That said, it sure is fun just grinding for the heck of it, which is good because hitting level 99 is an achievement on Steam for each character.
I greatly appreciate all the callbacks to previous games that XI throws in there. Of course there's Tickington, and all the quests there, but there are plenty of other callbacks in the main story that fans of the series will recognize and appreciate.
I highly recommend this game to any fans of classic JRPGs. This game shines still in 2021, and I am on my toes with anticipation for Dragon Quest XII.

The game has positives and negatives, but to me, it nets negative.

The game is cute to look at, and the music is pretty good. A couple of the boss fights are pretty interesting and fun to play.

Buuuuuuut... the level designs are not great. There is very little variation in the obstacles you face and the platforming doesn't feel complete. There are blind falls in some levels, and even with a float mechanic, it's still not good design having to guess if you can land somewhere or not.

The has a couple of decent boss fights, but the final boss is very poorly done. He has undodgeable attacks, which force you to take damage in some situations. I was able to make it through the rest of the game without leveling up my Dragon. The final boss though cannot be defeated (reasonably) by a dragon with no HP or damage output powerups because of the unavoidable attacks from the boss. This forced me to replay levels to grind gold to get upgrades. Very disappointing.

Pros: cute art style, some funny moments, very good music
Cons: sub-par platforming, repetitive levels, unavoidable attacks

If you enjoy a classic feeling Metroidvania, this is a good option. The controls are solid, and the platforming is good. They did a great job setting up the mood of the game, and composed great music to go along with the level designs. The game clearly draws a lot of inspiration from Symphony of the Night, and pulls of what it's trying to accomplish.

Man, one of my buddies gifted me this game when I got my gaming PC, and I am so happy he did. This game is fantastic. I love the art-style, and the gameplay. It's a simple combat system, but where the game really excels is in the puzzle solving. It also handles 3D platforming extremely well. I've beaten the game now, and am still going back to it trying to find the last few missing collectibles. I would *highly* recommend giving this game a try. Definitely great for a Zelda fan, or anyone who just loves 3D action-adventures.
