critics are important, they keep companies from just spewing out slop and save people from making bad financial decisions.
BUT, its equally important for viewers to recognize BOTH faults AND accomplishments of a game. ALL games have good parts and bad parts (some worse than others of course), but recently it seems people will only take away the bad parts when it comes to looking at a review.

this game has WAYYY more good in it than bad, but the steam reviews dont represent that due to the amount of people only focusing on the bad parts they see in the videos they watch.


some games have a glaring amount of problems compared to the good parts of it.
This is not one of those games.

I highly recommend this game to any fans of co-op horror games such as Phasmophobia and Devour.

if you are looking for a single-player experience similar to the linear gameplay from the previous Outlast games, this may not be the game for you.
While the entire game can be completed in single-player, it is not built with a single-player experience in mind. The game relies on and is built around the idea of cooperation between players, and playing it by yourself will only become a detriment throughout the trials.
In terms of linearity, it is almost entirely scrapped and replaced with replayability. The game also feels a bit more open when inside the trials, most commonly letting players explore the entire map while they search for objectives scattered throughout.

Complaints:

• There is not a way to search for specific trials through the Group Finder. The only thing you can do is search for a group and hope they are playing the trial you need, which is pretty flawed for a game that requires you to unlock trials in order. If you do end up playing a trial you have not unlocked yet, the game will still save your score on that trial and mark it complete. However this is not completely clear to the player because the trial will still have a "locked" symbol and the only way you can see that it has been completed is through the check marks on the completion rewards.
  
• There is a lack of regional matchmaking. I commonly find myself playing with people I do not understand, making it difficult to cooperate. The ping system becomes very useful in groups with language barriers, but voice chat can be seen as a necessity for some players in certain situations.
