An actual, pure, untainted Roguelike.
A lot of the more popular roguelike/lites that have come out recently have always had a degree of levelling up or becoming stronger between runs; say Hades for example.
Isaac is the simplest form of Roguelikes but there is an undeniable amount of complexity to its systems.

The items are the main power spikes in this game. Not XP, not outside of run purchases but pure items and of course, skill.
There are so many unlocks that you'll always have something to aim for if you get bored of just doing runs for the sake of doing runs.

Easily the best, purest and most complex roguelike out there right now. Theres a reason this is the standard for roguelike today.

The lore behind the game is also quite interesting, a lot of bible imagery and inspirations drawn from there.
The sheer number and variety of items is absurd, granted they're all not great but they all have their place with synergies.

If you're unsure about it, get rebirth first and then slowly add the DLCs if you enjoy the game. Although the DLCs add a lot of content, they also somewhat make the game more difficult.

Oh my God what a game.

This game does a brilliant job at subtle storytelling with environmental clues, emails, audio logs, locations etc. To add to that, the story is an absolute banger. Never once did i stop caring about what i was doing or why i was doing it. Everything you do in this game had purpose, there wasn't a sidequest or main quest which made me feeling like it was a big grand waste of time. You can breeze through the story pretty fast but the sidequests and exploration really do help pad out the hours. It's enjoyable exploration too if you truly immerse yourself. Speaking of immersion, it does a fantastic job at that with just the right amount of horror sprinkled in. Although, lategame you become unstoppable but we move baby.

Sure, there is a lot of backtracking, and i mean a lot, but all of that sorta became a non-issue for me as going back later meant i had better powers/skills and could pick up on things i missed my first or even second time through the area.

This game is the only example i've played where the game treats you as a smart, logical thinking individual. Sure, other games have claimed that they do but i've never experienced it to the same degree as i did during this game. 9 times out of then if you think there is something that should be possible, it will be. Don't be scared to give anything a try, you'd be surprised what ends up working. I was discovering little work arounds to problems and puzzles late into my playthrough. I wish i had experimented a bit more earlier in the game.

The main issues for this game is going to be the backtracking for sure, it can be really cumbersome for some people and the LONG ASS LOADING TIMES sure as ♥♥♥♥ don't help. They're unreasonably long i will admit.
Also, there is some weird jank going on with character audio. its so damn loud and crisp compared to the other sounds. You'll have to do some fine tuning

Banger banger banger of a game, so underrated. I tried to play it back on release but my small brain was turned off with the albeit daunting task of traversing and re-traversing the space base but boy am i glad i picked it up again. woo hoo

Yeah the game is immersive and fun at the right times, mostly during the linear aspects of the story.
For me, i never felt so immersed and on the edge of my seat than i was during the final hour or two of the game. Funnily enough the final two hours were all linear hmm...

I think the open world aspect was a mistake honestly, i feel that metro is best in the linear scenario where everything is controlled to deliver the best immersive experience possible. There was so many times where i got bored during the open world because metro is not a game built on good mechanics.

The traversal feels 'budget' and too tedious, and you will be doing a lot if it during the open world segments. The mechanics aren't bad by any means, but i think the isolationism to the linear aspect of the game hid the shortcomings well in previous entries.

i feel like im in the minority here but i think this game is great at the right times and boring as hell at the others.

Would still recommend it tho, only on a sale.

TLDR: Fun, immersive game during linear segments, open world kinda ruins the metro vibe imo

I had more fun in this game with the voice volume turned down and subtitles off.
The dogw*nk writing can't get to me that way.

This game's writing is like me on CSGO. Getting hard carried by people with superior gunplay.

Honestly a great game and for sure easier than the Dark Souls game.


I just have one MAJOR problem with this game that i haven't seen anyone else talk about so i thought it best to get it out there just in case its a deal breaker for you.

The issue is that the game is very satisfying and i'm finding myself creaming every time i land a Mikiri Counter.

Slow, tedious but satisfying.
Game looks fantastic and runs pretty darn well too.


P.S. There are some rare issues with overclocking and random crashing. If you get random crashes to desktop, try downclocking your ram or GPU.

I love Roguelites and this is a damn good one at that.

I will admit, for me there was a massive hump to get over before i could truly enjoy the game and that hump was actually beating one run of it. It took me around 30 tries and 17 hours. Before beating the game I did get a little bit bored but after finishing a run and learning the attacks of bosses and such; the game became an absolute delight.

The characters are amazing and their voice acting is phenomenal. I'm around 45 hours in and there is still new dialogue and loads more to come in the form of character bonds.

Every weapon is viable and it suits a lot of different playstyles.

The art is amazing..

The story is great, especially if you're a fan of greek mythology.


Theres a reason this game is 'Overwhelmingly Positive' on steam ..

If you feel 'bored' or 'lost' then i urge you to at least finish one run, and go from there.

Jesus christ this game is a chore. A massive, massive chore. But a chore that i found somewhat satisfying to complete.

I basically 100% this game, not including achievements, I did all the quests, all the side quests, all the question marks, all the artemis hunts.. Everything. I can say that 40% of my time with this game was just meaningless grind whereas the other 60% was good good fun.

Nice locations to explore, an okay story and a beautiful but large map. Personally, im not a fan of the new AC direction considering that other Devs do it much better and it doesn't really make sense for this format to adopt an annual release schedule.

A lot of the repeatable side stuff is stupidly boring and lazy. Your Main Character could be some nice fella who loves people or whatever but the repeatable side quests won't care for that. Its literally just

'Alexios/Kassandra! come here'
'Yes?'
'This man did this bad thing to me'
'Oh no, you want me to go teach him a lesson?'
'No go kill'
????????

thats it, thats all you do. Kill random people because people said to, no choice, no other options; Go kill?!?!?!?

But i skipped all those, not worth it.

Get this game for the setting and locations mostly, and if you get tired of the monotonous side stuff, just don't do it; its not worth it..

Also if you hate the new AC format, you won't like this.

very epic, scary but good scary.

Jumpscares are rare but they are present, most of the time they occur after reentering an area that had a zombie left in it, they'll be behind the door or something; most are avoidable if you are diligent.

Was a joy to play, the game just felt 'nice' to play. The animations, gunplay, walking around, exploring etc all felt great. Walking had 'weight' to it, the zombies had great dynamic animations for falling over and stuff. Technically this game is phenomenal.

Mr X. is annoying but you get used to him, don't worry about that big ♥♥♥♥.
