Massive downgrade from Doom 2016.
How did they turn a power fantasy game into a tedious resource management slog?

The key difference is Doom 2016 was exhilarating to play, Doom Eternal is exhausting to play.

It's more a novel rather than a game with some janky graphics, animations and some questionable voice acting. But if you can look past all this, this will show you a level of storytelling you very rarely see in games.

This was a very enjoyable metroidvania. The whole thing felt very high quality and you can tell a lot of care and passion went into this project.

The combat is fun and satisfying and the puzzles and platforming challenges never feel obtuse or unfair.

If I could give two small criticisms it would be
1) Slightly too easy. You should definitely play this on Hard if you have experience with similar games. Even then with all the damage upgrades you can brute force your way through most bosses.
2) Level design does feel a bit samey towards the end. A bit more variety in map design would have been nice.

I love all the doom engine games, but the level design in this game is incredibly frustrating. Just all the worst parts of old school level design. For every minute of fighting enemies you spend 10 minutes hunting keys and switches.

Short and sweet shooter. Pretty basic but a bit too easy, I was playing on hard and can easily one-shot 80% of enemies.

Only became somewhat of a challenge on the last episode.

Gets a reluctant thumbs up form me. It has a similar problem to Ion Fury. The developers spent so much effort pushing the engine to its limits they forgot to focus on making a fun shooter.

There is simply not enough variety of enemies and the ones you fight are more frustrating than challenging. You either have to save scum after every 2-3 kills or play like a cover shooter.

Not to say it's a bad game, there are some brilliant moments and the level designs are fantastic overall.

Cool little digging themed metroidvania. A little on the easy side but a fun chill game which is good for about 10 hours or so. Good value definitely recommend.

Short and sweet. Strong Journey vibes with light platforming and puzzles.
The platforming can be a bit frustrating at times and can be a bit repetitive but it's a good time overall.

So happy I waived till v2 to play this. The atmosphere and setting is probably the best thing about this.

Game does nothing especially amazing and is more of sum of its parts but was an overall excellent experience.
