Early Access Review
Another abandoned early-access game. Had potential when it first released... Alas, another reason why I almost never buy early-access games anymore.

Unfortunately I can't support this game, or more specifically the companies Warner Bros and Portkey, any longer.

I recently bought the game for 40% off, but was able to play it at release too. On it's own, the game is slightly better than average. As a HP fan, there's definitely more fun to be had. I'm comfortable with the price I paid for it.

My main reasons why I can't support it anymore:
  1. They didn't spend enough time the PC port, it still has serious optimisation issues. Even on top tier machines.
  2. The game is supposedly set in the 1800s but characters talk like it's 2023 and it's full of wokeness (a transgender person, how?). How is that in any way immersive, no matter if you agree with current movements in the world or not?
  3. Last but not least, they intentionally left Quidditch out of the game and recently announced it as a new standalone game. Do they really see us fans and gamers as cows ready to be milked?

My 2th and 3th point could've been overlooked if that didn't bother you, was it not for my 1st point... It's extremely sad I had to write this review.

Bought it when it originally released as a buy to play game. They got a second chance over the original ArcheAge MMO, and they still f#cked it up. And then, not soon after release, they turned it into a free to play game with a subscription model.

Avoid these devs and publishers like the plague...

Ever since BF4 I've started to loose faith in the series. The decline was already visible in that game, though I still found it fun enough to play a few 100 hours. BF1 was a nice change of setting, though already lacking in many more ways. BFV controls felt so different than previous games, I just couldn't get used to it.

BF2042 just continues on that. Add to that the fact that the maps aren't fun, they made a terrible decision replacing the classes with "heroes" which leads to big balance issues regarding every player basically being able to combine whatever weapon with whatever tool, removing any form of campain and so on and so on...

BF2042 deserves it's negative review score.

The idea of this game is nice, very appealing. Unfortunately there is so little variation in the "underlying algorithm" that you'll figure most of what it can do within a few minutes. I have played more interesting games for the same price, or even cheaper. That's why I can't recommend this game, not for the (low) price that it is.

An increddible immersive experience with great multiplayer connectivity and cross-play. The game is definitely worth it playing on your own, but experiencing the campain with up to 4 people together is just so much more fun.

Also, MODS!

Playtested DOS2 before release and thus received a free copy of the game.

RS has changed a lot over the last decade. Some changes have certainly been very questionable. The game is not the same as it was 10 years ago. Even though I don't agree with everything, I definitely still like to play RS. In fact, I've just became a member again with the Premier Club Gold package, after having quit playing for a few years. RS still has the ability to suck me into its lore-rich world, more than any other game these past few years.

For those who prefer the more original feel of the game, there's the option to play OSRS. You'll have to start a new account from zero again to play OSRS, which is not something I'm interested in personally as I invested a lot of time in my current RS account.

I do want to point out one big move Jagex made which unfortunately downgraded RS quite a bit in my opinion: the implementation of micro-transactions. However, that's something I've learned to live with and doesn't bother me as much anymore as it used to.

So... First, I bought Space Engineers in early access a few years ago. Was very happy with it's current state and the amount of updates it kept getting. Then it released Medieval Engineers in pretty much the same state they originally released Space Engineers in. Also very happy. Praise to the developer!

Then, it's as if the developer forgot about their own game. Medieval Engineers basically didn't get updated anymore, no significant news, nothing, where as Space Engineers stayed pretty consistent with the news and updates.

And now, finally they decided to inform us they abandoned this game. The saddest thing of all is that they try to make us believe that they are releasing the game in a state they originally planned to... Even though they apologised to the community, lowered the price and will give current owners of the base game the 'Deluxe' version (which is just the soundtrack and a stupid banner that can easily be implemented by mods) for free? What? XD

Be very glad you already have my money, because you won't be seeing any more of it in the future.

Tl, dr:
One of the best RPG's ever made, minus the occasional bug and how taxing it is on your PC.

Pro:
  • lots of realism in gameplay
  • story is based on historical events
  • world is based on real life locations
  • amazing graphics
  • great sound/voice acting (most of the time)
  • you're sh!t at everything and will have to learn and practice to "git gud". This means the game can feel pretty slow, especially at the beginning. To me this is a pro as the investment adds to the realism, but to some this might feel too slow/boring
  • overall a very immersive experience
  • mods

Con:
  • very taxing for GPU and CPU. I'm running a GTX 980 Ti with a i7-6700K and am running the game on medium settings in order to not drop below 60fps all the time. I also set a 60fps cap in order to not overwork my hardware (which can somethimes be the cause of crashes). Good thing is that even with low/medium settings, the game still looks really great
  • not a bug/crashfree game, though it's brought to a minimum over the past few updates
  • overall things could've been optimised a bit better

DLC:
Doesn't add much to the game, definitely not needed to enjoy the full experience. Money better spent on another game.
