Admittedly, I wasn't going to write a review on this game until I had beaten it (I still haven't). But as for why I reccomend this game, despite of the way it continues to frustrate me, have some backstory. This game dropped December of 2017, and I had received it from a friend as a way to make fun of me for being bad at games. However, my girlfriend at the time had only recently broken up with me and I found out later she cheated on me. Now, I realize most people reading this won't care, but this game serves as a cathartic way to reflect on things. The dev makes some good points in the way the game industry is etc, but I found myself coming back in 2018 to this, looking for answers. I wanted to know why beating difficult things, or doing well in school for instance just doesn't feel good anymore. I suppose the answer I am assembling from this game, is that truthfully, the effort you put into something may not equal the return, and yet other times the pay off may be worth it, only to leave you high and dry after a while. Reading between the lines, I feel getting over it is also a commentary on scaling the peaks that we make in our lives, they become so much easier to climb once we realize we're the one making them.
TL;DR: I reccomend this game, it will frustrate you, but that is the point.
I will update this review at time of first successful climb.

EDIT: As of January 1st, 2019, after a run of 6h:51m:41.752s I successfully have beaten this game. May the worries and the pain I leave in 2018 and beyond be a testement to one man's will to go beyond obstacles in their life.

EDIT 2: As of January 11th, 2019, after a run of 6h 00m 26.977s, I have beat the game and not streamed it, this truly was a rewarding experience

At the end of the day, this game is what you make it, and that isn't to say it's supposed to have a fixed meaning, but if you can take away something positive out of something so brutally frustrating, I think that would be a positive outcome in any game.

The dev mentioned that he made this game to hurt a specific kind of people. And I found another point of view about this game while reading other reviews, which might be interesing. It's said that this game, and the narrator, is to satirize the kind of people who want to seek the sense of achievement, because all the difficulties and barriers in the games are actually set by devs on purpose, to entertain the players and make them feel proud of themselves while not to bore them. So the dev of this game, however, wanted to tell video game players that the achievements they get in games may be meaningless. Especially when they fell from a very high position to the bottom of the map lol Anyway, ur review and the review I've mentioned above are both thought-provoking and make me think a lot. Maybe we should try focusing a little more on real life challenges instead of seeking achievements in games? But I doubt whether I can reduce my gameplay time myself lol.

I would agree, I guess in a weird way, this game being so difficult is a way to see things in a new filter

Not many people may able to relate with you on that, but I support your comment that this game, in fact, does provide meaningful insights over different things (etc. internet culture), depending on how each players would understand.
Unlike other games or films, which are carefully crafted to provide friendly and quality experiences for audiences to digest, Getting Over It does it the hard way; Your gaming experience is stressful, painful, and frustrating, but at least for some player, they could learn something from this.
For my case, I learned how to be patient, exceptionally patient and calm on all times, so I can avoid furthur irrational actions which do nothing but make things worse, a really useful message even in the real world. And you probably on learn that through the hard way, through "Getting Over It".
