Honestly, I'd've loved more levels of this quality! There are only 3 to play here, but they're all solid challenges and have a great sense of flow to them, to the point where any section you might have to wait to get through normally can be synchronized with your movement through the levels themselves if you're fast enough, which completely negates the wait periods. Getting better at the levels isn't just to get S ranks, it's to get a more rewarding sense of speed and flow, which is really cool! I'm also quite happy to see Shadow become playable after beating this, even if he is a model swap of Modern Sonic with new animations, much akin to how Metal Sonic in Adventure 1 was. It's nice to play as him again, given most of the cast hasn't been playable since 06 or even earlier in some cases.

Given most of the small bonus DLC packs I've played through in various games were mostly for the reward at the end as opposed to anything significant on the way to the reward, this was a welcome change! Good stuff! Love the remix of White Jungle, too! This was much cooler than expected, and a welcome addition to Forces!

Half-Genie Hero is an excellent platformer, especially with the addition of Pirate Queen's Quest, which has my favorite playstyle of all the ones on offer, however, I cannot recommend this release of the game, specifically. The Ultimate Edition has everything in one bundle, backer content included, as well as a gallery for all of the win screens you earn for every mode. The last two parts of that list were never added in the standard release, which I'm a bit miffed by. This is the only time Wayforward has done something like this, and I sincerely hope it's the last.

Still, Half-Genie Hero is more than worth your time and offers one of Jake Kaufman's best soundtracks to boot! You're missing out if you don't pick up the Ultimate Edition of this game. Again, the standard release, the version this is a review of, is not what you want.

I was already elated that the drifting sound is remarkably similar to that one screaming goat video (I will never unhear this and neither will you), but then I played as the Shogun.

Holy ♥♥♥♥, let me tell you about the Shogun.

Ever since Mario Kart Wii, there's been a Funky Kong-shaped hole in my heart as every Mario Kart game that followed failed to bring him back. He's a sunglasses-wearing, motorcycle driving, screaming monkey. What's not to like? He's the single best character I've ever played in a kart racer. The Shogun, however, has finally filled that hole in my heart. This overly enthusiastic man who drives a wooden kart with his own mask on the front of it screams about EVERYTHING. There is not an action you can take in this game that he will not scream about, and I love him for it. This game gets a 10 out of 10 from me. This is officially my new favorite kart racer.

BANZAI!!!

Terry Bogard takes a break from fighting to go fishing with the most enthusiastic announcer of all time and they have a great time catching Bass. You should buy this game and join them. You don't even need to like fishing to have a fun time with this game; I speak from experience. I don't tend to remember fishing exists unless I happen to encounter something related to it, yet still I continue to have a great time with it. If the announcer alone doesn't put a smile on your face, I don't know what will.

Probably the best deal I've gotten on old games in a very long time. You can buy each of these individually for less than a buck, and thanks to the added regional selection, save/reload features, and modding options, it's proven to be the best way I've experienced many old Sega titles. What's really cool is that each of these games are ROMs, so if you want, you can take them out of the game folder after you buy and download them, and play on your emulator of choice. I personally recommend Kega Fusion.

As for which games I'd recommend getting for certain, here's a list:
-Gunstar Heroes
-Alien Soldier
-Dynamite Heady
-Streets of Rage 1, 2, and 3 (play 3 in Japanese, the English release is made substantially worse)
-Shinobi III
-Sonic 3&Knuckles
-Ristar

I've still got a few more games to try out in this collection, so I'll probably add more to this list later, but those are the ones I'd say I've had the best experiences with. Honestly, anything made by Treasure is worth playing, so the top 3 are for sure games you need to try. They're the first ones I thought of for good reason.

Also, for as much as I love Sonic 3, I strongly believe the curse it provided the fanbase will never end. They named it Hydrocity Zone in the game and in Sonic Mania, yet in every instance the name shows up on a soundtrack, it's always listed as Hydro City. I'm convinced Sega is laughing at the fanbase as they argue over the correct spelling and pronunciation of the name and they will never confirm or deny anything regarding the name. Why else would they continue to do this? It has to be for their own amusement.

It's time I tell you about one of my favorite series I've ever experienced: Mega Man. Almost each and every series/spinoff series has brought a smile to my face and provides me with a feeling of elation as I play them. Even with as many platformers as I've played, there's nothing quite like the feel of a Mega Man game. Heck, even as someone who's grown more and more disdainful of the NES era (to no fault of the developers behind games of that era, they were still figuring out what could make for good design), Mega Man 1-6 remain classics I keep going back to. I love these games with all of my heart, and knowing Capcom is going the extra mile to introduce so many people to solid collections of these games with neat bonus content to boot, heck, I can't help but smile at that.

I hope these games provide you with the same smiles they provide me with and that they encourage you to try out what came later in the franchise. The fact that the franchise has so many different games and series, yet only a handful of them can be considered lacking or bad, speaks to the sheer level of quality, fun, and joy these games can provide. Knowing I could convince you to try something I love and that you could enjoy it, too, would more than make my day.

Team Ladybug once again hits it out of the park with another outstanding Metroidvania! It's really amazing just how creative and good the ideas present in their games are. For example, this game knows how to make time powers really cool and really fun! You can freeze time, throw some knives, and jump off of them to get to higher areas! That's so awesome! Every boss in this game is a treat that I can't get enough of! I'm also appreciative of how the game handles the graze mechanic, as it's a great risk-reward system since it restores your HP and MP, while putting you in the line of fire. This is one game that puts your skills to the test in a very satisfying manner! I absolutely recommend it!

I don't know how it is I haven't played a Bloons Tower Defense game since the early 2000's, this is such a good time! Like, somehow, somewhere along the way, I got the idea that these kinds of games are tough and methodical, but this is actually a super chill and fun time! This is just a comfy-as-heck game to unwind with and cap off a day. I've been playing one or two maps before bed and it's helped me get to sleep more easily. I'm sticking with Bloons TD for a while!

Capcom has ruined Mega Man X7 for me with this release of the game. The load times are so blisteringly quick, I no longer have the ability to make and eat dinner while waiting for the next area to load. If I continue to play this release of the game, I will surely starve. I can't believe they'd do this to me.

In all seriousness, the only complaint I have regarding the collection itself is that Capcom replaced the old boss names in Mega Man X5 for this release with more traditional ones, which are nowhere near as memorable or fun.

HIS NAME IS DUFF MCWHALEN.

I've been revisiting the Sonic games we got from the Colors to Forces era after finishing Frontiers as of late, mostly to see how they hold up now that Frontiers has solidified itself as having some of the best feeling control I've experienced since the Adventure era, and honestly, while Generations does feel a bit more limiting to me now as a result of Sonic only being able to boost in the direction he's facing, as opposed to any direction that isn't up or down in Frontiers, I still adore this game!

Generations still holds up remarkably well, not just in terms of visuals, sound, and attention to detail, but in terms of level design and what you can pull off from a gameplay perspective! I do tend to prefer the Modern levels to the Classic ones, mostly due to Mania and Superstars blowing what you can do here as Classic Sonic out of the water. I do appreciate the spindash being mapped to a button for more ease of use and honestly can't fathom why they didn't keep that for Forces. Still, Modern Sonic steals the show for me here more than anything, and man alive, these are some of the best levels we've gotten for him of this era!

Crisis City was far and away my most played level when I used to play Generations more consistently, and it's still one of the best in the whole game for me! Getting all of the Red Rings on my first attempt of the level in this new playthrough I did made me happy, too! Even after all these years, I've still got it! In any case, the way the city is in a state of such disrepair and decay that it allows for some pretty creative ways to implement new level design, which is great given the surplus of city levels Generations has. I'm not surprised by the inclusion of so many, they are often the best excuses for Sonic to go fast in and that's absolutely the case here! Heck, even the Classic Sonic version of Crisis City has some neat ideas for terrain to zoom and platform through, and the gag with the goal post near the end of the level never fails to make me smile. You know the devs were laughing when they came up with that little trick to taunt the player in a fun, jovial way!

More than that, though, I really was surprised by the level of detail in Generations. I'd completely forgotten about how many ways they'd throw back to old bits of level geometry and add a twist to it or make it a quick but cool setpiece! One of my favorite parts of the whole game is actually in Seaside Hill, where you get to boost across the water and run along the top of it. That alone is already a fun concept, but what really stands out to me is how the out-of-bounds aspect is handled. A lot of games, especially the open-world games of recent years, like the Zelda Breath of The Wild duology, will simply have a message show up telling you you can't go any farther when you reach the out-of-bounds sections, but Sonic Generations has a fun little twist for you that I appreciate a lot more! When you leave the designated area to run on the water, a giant Chopper (the fish badnik) will come up behind you, and if you stay out of bounds for too long, it will dive forward and devour you in a single bite, putting you right back at the last checkpoint!

THANK YOU! That's so much more interesting than just a bland text box that says I arbitrarily can't go further or another invisible wall in my path! The environment is that much more engaging to move around in, and I won't lie, I do enjoy taunting the fish from time to time! Anything that makes a world feel more alive is always appreciated, even in a series where you often zoom right through it! It's the little stuff that means the most, and adds soul to your experiences, you know? I live for that!

I don't know if the new release of Sonic Generations SEGA's making, titled "Sonic X Shadow Generations" is going to be making any changes or improvements to the base game, but honestly, I don't think there's much they can improve on here. I still need to revisit Forces later to complete my revisits of this part of the series, but I think I can confidently say this is the best of what this era offers! I'm looking forward to seeing what we get for new Shadow gameplay in the future! Our boy needs more love, and more chances to be playable, that's for sure!
