Deliciously weird. Occasionally unconventional game play. Terrific voice acting. The visuals and audio are top notch. Fascinating story telling.

I have only been able to play for about an hour and a half as of the posting of this review, but I can confidently say this has been the best $20-ish dollars I have spent on a game in years.

I wish I could rate this game so-so.

It has a lot of bugs. Bethesda support doesn't even bother to attempt to help with any of them, neither with in-game issues nor account-related problems such as failed attempts to collect promotions one paid for. Rather they seem to be using an automated system that responds to tickets with useless canned responses.

The rate of useful armor, weapon, or schematics drops is insanely low. Nothing feels unique or special. Even the rare legendary item I've come across has some useless bonus stat(s) and has trade offs that make them worse than most standard gears.

That said, the good:

* If you enjoy exploration in an open world, merely roaming about and discovering new people and places while engaging in random quests and activities, the game does deliver

* The combat is good for a Fallout game, perhaps a tad better than that of Fallout 4. And despite none of the weapons I have found being interesting, there are nonetheless a wide variety to use

* One can quickly adjust their build for any play style so long as they have the cards for it

* Joining random groups and participating in events with them is a quick and easily accessible activity

* There is a lot of content, a lot of carrots to keep a player engaged

* Every NPC is voice acted with some classically odd Fallout characters and enemies

Fallout 76 is a strong 2.5/5. If Bethesda would provide some real tech support and increase the drop rate of meaningful and interesting gear and schematics this would easily be a 3.5/5 game.

I am nearly twenty years late on my review, but better late than never.

I actually purchased this physically on PC back in the day, I believe before I was even using Steam - any other olds remember when buying physical PC games from a brick and mortar was a thing?

I played through it twice - the first time as a sneaky do gooder, the second time as a big brawling villain. It got me hooked on open world games and the Fallout universe, and I've been a huge fan ever since. The game is a little rough being from 2008, but still fun and tells a fantastic story.

Watching the new Fallout show made me nostalgic for my first Fallout fix, so I'm back, this time to reexperience the games with mods.

Early Access Review
Early in I can tell this is a gem. And I typically do not like rougelikes.

Great graphics evocative of futuristic games like Overwatch. Pretty good music, energetic sound effects.

The gameplay is fast, taking place within arena-like rooms that allow the player lots of mobility and various ways to leverage their arsenal of weapons. It feels like a throwback in many ways to the FPS's of yesteryear, with its focus on clean yet frenetic combat. It has some platforming elements that are serviceable - probably best suited to playing with a gamepad.

It offers a great deal of customization, rewarding the player with something new to upgrade or improve and/or new weapons each time they defeat a group of foes. In some respects it feels, to me, as if the Mega Man franchise was revamped for the modern era and turned first person.

I've really enjoyed what I have played. I think I'll wait for the 1.0 release before spoiling myself on more.

It's a good atmospheric game. A lean but interesting story and novel visuals. You spend much of your time exploring a post apocalyptic open world on your hover bike, meeting characters for quests, searching old ruins, and solving puzzles. Very chill.

The game play can feel a little under cooked at times, but nothing egregious - overall it plays well. It seems deceptively simple at first but introduces new mechanics as one progresses through the story.

Light spoilers ahead . . .

I did not expect the ending to fill me with such melancholy for a few moments, but then a sense of satisfaction. I commend the writers, this was a terrific story that left me in a great mood.

It's the Kingdom franchise in a cool 80's wrapper. I dig the bright and vivid visuals and 80's inspired soundtrack.

Still early in, I see they added more story elements to this entry. I only played the original Kingdom game so I don't know if this new for the franchise, but I like what I've seen so far.

This is the most feature rich, content dense, creative, and meticulously crafted farm life game I have played - by far. The attention to detail with the art and assets, particularly the interior of buildings and the environment around the island, is impressive.

For the first time in any of these games the town and its people feel dynamic. They change their clothes. Mix up their routines. Have conversations with one another. They can be seen doing numerous activities around town on any given day. One might watch you as you pass by or step aside to avoid you as you careen through town. Their dialog is dynamic, with them mentioning current events. It's really cool.

The game is quite buggy though. Sometimes you can't catch an insect with your net. Occasionally you can't get a special event to start, or at least one of the mini games within it. There's starts to quest lines that simply won't work - such as delivering an item you find to the NPC it belongs to. So far I haven't come across any egregious or game breaking bugs, but all of the little annoyances do add up.

Even with the bugs I think this is the best of the genre out right now. I daresay it might even be better than my beloved Stardew Valley.

If you like games like Stardew Valley you'll probably enjoy this. It's more focused on completing quests, but even early on I can see that this game has a lot of depth for a life sim / farm sim.

I wish it supported more resolutions, and for some reason it really eats through my Steam Deck's battery, but a solid buy if you're a fan of the genre.
