After widely praised Dishonored 1 and 2, Arkane Studios brought us a new game that wasn't exactly what we were hoping for in the first place but ended up being an incredibly immersive and remarkable experience throughout the whole playthrough.

Pros:

- Incredible immersive and unforgettable experience
- Atmosphere is nailed on
- Great characters and voice acting
- Mick Gordon as the composer of the soundtrack

Cons:

- Audio overlapping, inconsistent framerate in one area
- Minimal variety in enemy types

TL;DR:

If you are a fan of immersive sims, great story till the end, interesting gameplay and amazing atmosphere that Prey provides, this game is definitely ProperValue for your money even at a full price.

FULL REVIEW:

After almost 10 years long development, first Prey received praises all around, and the sequel that was already in works, it ended up being delayed and eventually completely canceled.
Fast forward few years later, new Prey game gets announced scrapping the idea of a galactic bounty hunter showing us a, what ended up being, inspiring FPS shooter set in space on station Talos 1 featuring Morgan Yu fighting against hostile aliens named Typhon.

Story

Prey takes place in 2023 where main protagonist Morgan Yu joins his brother's research team called TranStar on space station Talos I.
While taking tests in order to join the TranStar team, Morgan Yu is asked to take series of tests before hopping aboard. During these tests, a huge plot is revealed shaking the whole game and creating a great set up for what's about to be a fantastic journey.
Prey's rich assessment of side quests, audio logs and quests will give you a complete and unprecedented story of a Talos space station and its inhabitants.
Taking an inspiration from titles such as System Shock and Bioshock Infinite, Prey doesn't shy away at presenting itself in its best light featuring strong story, character build-up and interesting gameplay that holds even after many hours spent wandering the station in search of supplies and loot.

Gameplay

Right off the bat, Prey puts you in control of at first, helpless Morgan Yu left to fight the strange and scary creatures with only a wrench at your disposal. The imperative is put on exploring and creating your path to the objective experiencing the survival in the very first beginnings of the game.

As you progress and explore, you'll discover various different weapons, such as shotgun, pistol, Q-beam and others with an emphasis on a weapon called Gloo Cannon. This weapon although later on rather weak compared to the options you'll discover, will prove to be very useful and important in not only defending yourself from the creatures that stand in your way but also in creating pathways in order to avoid different obstacles that would otherwise require a certain skill such as Hacking or Lifting.
As is tradition in Dishonored, Prey allows your imagination to bring the battle the best way you think it's possible for you, either going stealthy and sneaking your way through or head on, beating everyone that stands in your way. The variation in enemies is lacking and certainly one of the weaker aspects of the game, but that doesn't take away the setting and atmosphere that Prey successfully sets and holds even when you're feeling the strongest. The scarce in weapons, ammunition and health packs will certainly question your every move and decision to deter from your path.

Backtracking in the game was never more satisfying and rewarding as doing so not only expands your knowledge of the crew and station overall, but it also brings worthwhile rewards that will make every one of your trips worth the trouble.

Sound

Created by famous Mick Gordon who wears title of a proud compositor of all-hailed DOOM soundtrack, he brings something incredible to life with great soundtrack placed in perfect places at a perfect time when the tension is at its peak, or when the battle with Typhons is momentarily over. Given that you listen to a lot of audio-logs throughout the game, voice-acting is top-notch and it certainly elevates your experience on another level.

Game, unfortunately, isn't without its flaws, and although having near perfect execution, occasional but very rare FPS drops, annoying audio overlays and lack of enemies leave this game at a solid 9/10 rate.

If you are a fan on immersive sims, great story till the end, interesting gameplay and amazing atmosphere that Prey provides, this game is definitely ProperValue for your money even at a full price.

LATE SHIFT is a FMV, a genre that's still improving and one that I'm always looking forward to playing and experiencing. This game is no different, and being crime thriller makes it that more exciting and interesting. LATE SHIFT is a game where your choices truly matter carving a unique and thrilling journey albeit sometimes falling through cracks of its own ambitions.

Pros

*Great acting all around with few bad apples here and there should leave you more than satisfied at the end of the adventure
*Solid storyline(s)
*Great replayability value - this game offers 7 unique endings, 14 different chapters that you can explore and great replay value. Each playthrough will offer different dialogue and storyline to follow.
*Charming characters and actors that (in most cases) do justice to their respective role
*Great price for what it offers

Cons

*Some of the actors aren't up to bar, but given the price, these are easily overlooked
*Story inconsistencies will sometimes leave a bad taste in your mouth

Story

In LATE SHIFT, you play Matt, a college student that works at a parking lot with many expensive and fancy cars to look over. After the car gets stolen in a place you work, you are dragged into a brutal London heist with not many options but to follow their words and do as you told. Shaping your own path with choices that you make, the story will lead you to one of seven different conclusions. The story is nothing spectacular or revolutionary, but the replayability and different paths that you take will offer different experiences every time.

Gameplay & Graphics

Being a FMV, LATE SHIFT offers nothing radical in its department as their focus is on telling a great story.

Is this game ProperValue for your money?

For its price, and replayability it offers with solid actors and shape all around, this game offers great value even at a full cost. I'd recommend this to anyone that is looking for a good FMV game as it offers fantastic experience throughout the whole journey.

Combining immersive and rich lore, fascinating world and incredible gameplay that suits to your playstyle, Dishonored takes the crown as one of the best Stealth/First-Person games to date. Following the story of revenge, you take a role as a supernatural, highly skilled assassin and the Lord Protector - Corvo who's seeking vengeance upon those who ensured your downfall.

Pros
* Beautiful art style alongside mesmerizing audio design
* Incredible world build up
* Interesting lore and background of the characters
* Very fun and engaging combat and gameplay overall
* Game encourages different play styles that cater to the player
* Runs very smooth and overall offers memorable experience

Cons

* N/A

Story

Dishonored puts you in a role of a supernatural assassin driven by revenge. Following the story of Corvo, the Lord Protector sworn to serve Empress Jessamine Kaldwin. After being framed for the empress's murder, Corvo seeks vengeance against everyone who orchestrated his downfall. The game takes place in the industrial city Dunwall that is ruled by a vigorous regime that comes to power shortly after the death of the Empress. In search of Empresses daughter Emily, that's been kidnapped following the murder of Jessamine, Corvo tries his best to find Emily and clear his name. Story albeit predictable wraps up nicely for the sequel that's looking very promising.

Gameplay

One of the key aspects in why this game is rated highly among other Stealth/First-Person games is that it tries many different things, and in fact, succeeds in almost every single one of them. Being able to pick your playstyle and cater the story based off of your choice is something not a lot of games can say they tried and pulled it off. Weapons you have at your disposal, such as guns, knives, mines, crossbow and variety of supernatural abilities that allow you to approach your target in ways you wouldn't even imagine. Dishonored doesn't hold your hand, and while being 'linear', offers many different paths and routes to explore and take on your journey. You can choose either to try and remain unseen, swiftly moving behind the enemy lines like a ghost or maybe causing mayhem using everything at your disposal to dismantle your foes and reach your targets. Upgrading your abilities such as Blink that allows you to blink to a certain area, or time bending that allows you to slow and later on stop time, will give you numerous amount of ways to approach the objective. Dishonored is a masterpiece in terms of gameplay, offering hours of fun and enjoyment to the player.

Graphics, Optimisation and Soundtrack

Dishonored runs flawlessly combining interesting and often stunning art style with great voice acting and audio design that leaves nothing more to be desired.

Is this game ProperValue for your money

Absolutely! Dishonored is unique, unforgettable and very fun experience and I'd whole heartedly recommend purchasing Definitive edition in order to experience the DLC-s that improve upon the main game and close the chapter of the story nicely.

ABZU, while being relatively short but incredible and unique experience, proves once again that size doesn't always matter. Vibrant and colorful surroundings pull you into this incredible sea world that many may consider a 'work of art'. ABZU is a masterpiece in its own adventure genre leaving experience that'll be very hard to forget.

Pros:
  • Gorgeous and beautiful world
  • Swimming never felt more real and immersive
  • Excellent soundtrack
  • Vibrant colors and environments crowded with life
  • Unique and thrilling experience

Cons:

  • Very short journey
  • Mediocre story

Every once in a while, in our industry pops up a game that serves as a perfect example on how to leave right impression on the player, offering a unique and fascinating experience that's often very hard to forget. ABZU is that kind of a game. While exploring depths and swimming through the sole heart of the ocean, you'll immerse yourself in this world overloaded with life. This beautiful underwater adventure takes you on an unforgettable journey, progressing without any clear goal. ABZU is all about the observation and exploration of this vibrant and populated ocean.

Taking shark for a ride, jumping out of the oceans like a dolphin, or just simply wandering in this massive area, ABZU has it all, and even though a story doesn't have a lot that it can hold onto, the game's interesting and innovative gameplay will certainly intrigue some of you.

Is this game ProperValue for your money?

At a deeper discount, and at a price of a movie ticket, this game holds something valuable and unique that's definitely worth experiencing. Beautiful and charming world lays out solid base for exploration.

Virginia offers cinematic experience with beautiful visuals and soundtrack while leaving a lot of the unanswered questions tampering with your mind.

Pros:

  • Appealing visual and audio design
  • Incredible soundtrack that works very well with silent protagonist and the theme of the game
  • Long enough to not overstay its welcome and short enough to keep your attention for a little while
  • Movie-like experience focusing on that cinematic feeling
  • Different interpretation and experience due to game being completely void of any dialogue

Cons:

  • Rather confusing story

Neutral:

  • Walking simulator
  • 2 hour experience

TL;DR

Short, confusing, but oddly satisfying movie-like experience that Virginia offers is very original and interesting.

Story

This one is very confusing. It's set in a small town and follows gradute FBI agent Anne Tarver who's assigned very interesting case to investigate. Story takes a weird turn midway and it almost seems impossible to catch what's completely going on. Due to game having zero dialogue or monologue for that matter, different interpretations and experiences of the story may lead to different opinions.

Gameplay

Crafted with beautiful visuals and an amazing audio and soundtrack, Virginia plays out like an interactive movie. You're expected to do a certain action and there's no 'freedom' to roam or explore on your own. Game presents itself like a movie and it does that rather well albeit with weaker story execution.

Graphics, optimisation and soundtrack

Interesting artstyle, solid optimisation offering 30/60 and uncapped FPS with apsolutely fabulous soundtrack will take you on an interesting and rather complex trip.

Is this game ProperValue for your money

Game while offers something somewhat unique in terms of movie-like experience, its vague story leaves a lot of unanswered questions that are never properly filled. If you are looking for a short, but alluring experience that will most likely leave you confused and hanging by a thread, feel free to pick this up. Otherwise, wait for a deeper discount.

Creepy and mysterious, SOMA pulls you in with its atmospheric presence and captivating story. Following the journey of Simon, bookseller from Toronto, you quickly embark on a magical destination in a world where you'll question your very existence.

Pros:
  • Captivating story that will hold you throughout the whole game
  • Incredible voice acting that gives a great charm to the characters
  • Atmospheric albeit creepy and disturbing scenes to explore
  • Wonderful visual and audio design

Cons:
  • Monster although establish eerie atmosphere that oozes out of the game, are more often that not hindering your progress and unnecessary slow you down
  • Puzzles can be frustrating

TL:DR; Incredibly well written story set in a sci-fi setting will leave you astonished and overwhelmed by its presence. SOMA is ambitious but very well executed title that provides fullfilling narrative set in the Atlantic ocean.

Story

Taking a role of Simon, bookseller from Toronto, you quickly embark on a magical destination in a world where you'll question your very existence. Creators of previously very successful title named Amnesia: The Dark Descent take on very ambitious but interesting story that holds nothing back. Voice acting is great and leaves a imminent impact on you connecting with most of the characters you encounter. Ending while revealing nothing, is something to leave you speechless but also disturbing in a certain kind of way.

Gameplay

While the game follows same tradition as Amnesia: The Dark Descent, SOMA offers interesting puzzles that are relatively fair to the player but can leave you in frustration while searching for the right answer hunted by annoying monsters. While it's definitely not a walking sim given that it combines puzzle elements and exploration very well, monsters that you encounter although will set that eerie and disturbing atmosphere, are nothing but nuisance that prevent you from progressing further into the depth of SOMA.

Graphics, optimisation and soundtrack

Visually SOMA doesn't offer anything revolutionary. But it definitely sets a fantastic tone combined with audio design that will be appeal to many. Optimisation although not perfect, is nothing to worry about.

Is this game ProperValue for your money?

Fan or not of this genre, story that this game presents is incredibly written and is a must-buy to anyone looking for a great tale presented in a rather interesting but disturbing way.

Breathtaking world design, interesting main characters and gameplay innovations weren't enough to bring glory to this franchise that it once used to have, but it certainly is a step in the right direction.Rough around the edges, but with the great core set in, latest installment in this series brings us a story of brother and sister, two assassins fighting against the corrupt and unfair who take advantage of the less priviledged ones.

Story

Assassin's Creed has long deviated from being a game that was once very well known for intriguing story and lore to the point where the story is rather unpolished and uninspiring. Following the path of Jacob and Evie, the main focus will be on character development discarding the usual story that Assassin's Creed was recognized for.
On the other hand, while mainly focusing on character build-up, it's the first time in a while that story has a certain direction. Modern day while minimal, leaves rather interesting story left to be explored.

Gameplay

Gameplay is the reminiscence of the good old Assassin's Creed 2 gameplay, that brough novelty to the series. Combining exotic animations that Ubisoft games are well known for, new tool to travel called Grappling hook that offers troumendous help in covering the large parts of city jumping from one building to another, lots of gameplay variations and approaches to the target, Syndicate leaves nothing more to be desired. Gameplay although feels fleshed out and redefined is unfortunately crippled with atrocious AI and standard open-world syndrom that most of the Ubisoft games suffer from. Although vital improvements have been made in this part of the game, certain segments of the game are yet to be improved upon.

Graphics Optimisation and Soundtrack

Technically improved over the mess that's called Unity, but visually downgraded, Syndicate doesn't bring nothing very interesting to the table on this aspect. Optimisation is far better in this game, which is the result of far less interior areas and decreased crowd volume.
Soundtrack on the other hand is amazing and brings unique charm and vibe to the London area.

Is this game ProperValue for your money?

If you are fan of Assassin's Creed series, the answer is yes with finally some direction in mind regarding the story and fleshed out gameplay. If you are not, this game offers nothing that would sway your opinion in the complete opposite way so maybe you should rethink your purchase.

Rise & Shine is a supreme 2D Puzzle-Platformer with charming art style and challenging combat that will push you to the limits of your sanity.

Story

Rise & Shine takes you on an adventure of a Rise, the boy whose world is falling apart. Space grunts from Nexgen are trying to take over the planet, and the only one standing in their way is you, little boy. Fighting your way through, you'll encounter intriguing but forgettable characters that will hop along your journey through this devastating world. The game, being only around 2-3 hours long, doesn't help in leaving a feeling of a great bond between any of the characters, but rather tells its story in a quite unique and satisfying way. Humour is great and it definitely elevates the game to another level.

Gameplay

While combining some interesting puzzle-platforming, th 2D scroller implements rather interesting cover system that stand behind great idea, but rather poor execution. You'll often find yourself frustrated, due to the game being greatly challenging and unfair. Given the artwork that it provides, getting lost in the vivid colors and explosions will more often than not, lead to your misery. Puzzles are not very demanding in itself, but rather very well implemented and executed.

Sound

Soundtrack is very fitting, combining some wonderful audio throughout the whole game.

TL;DR

Is this game ProperValue for your money?

Rise & Shine although frustrating from time to time is very fun, amusing and beautiful but rather short experience that'll give you few hours of fun and excitement. Given its lenght, this game would be a wonderful purchase, but at a deeper discount.

One of the best installments of Telltale called Batman - The Telltale series starts off strong, and ends up surpassing my expectations proving that Telltale are still, masters of their genre.

Dominating and intriguing story, followed by improved visuals and rather interesting gameplay will leave you hungry for more.

Without revealing what the story is about, you take control of Bruce Wayne, billionaire industrialist that leads two lives - one of them being the protector of Gotham - Batman. As you tackle the story, you'll be presented a choices to battle through certain problems as a Batman, or as Bruce Wayne which adds a nice sparkle to the events that unfold.

Visually improved, but technically lacking, Telltale shows a dark side of Gotham rather well, presenting the villains in the 'darkest' way possible.

Gameplay parts of the game are significantly improved with you being able to do your own investigations and connect the links while having numerous amazing battles, although mostly through QTE scenes.

If you're looking for a fantastic story, that not a lot of people can pull of as well as Telltale does it, this is a game for you.

Score: 9/10
