In my defense I can only say that both examples of floaty animations were default Valve animation bits. The pose for Spy firing a gun was default character selection screen pose, the reason I didn't make it more dramatic is because I was going for a quick draw, cowboy-style of shooting, but I guess I failed delivering that feel. :) As for the engineer beating up the spy - the entire thing is Valve created (it's the engineer guitar taunt), I just tuned the pacing of it, and added his hat movement.
Either way it was very interesting to hear what a professional animator had to say about my work, thank you for taking your time and sharing your opinion! :)
