I wanted to recommend this stage, because the stage itself and the music included is awesome as hell, but yet again bamco's practices are absolutely shady.
♥♥♥♥ you bamco for making me have to purchase this, when I already had the ultimate edition and expected all season 1 content. I get that maybe your company's hurting financially but how about commit to something people would actually HAPPILY purchase, like new games or proper content-filled expansions to games, instead of trying to nickle-and-dime your audience with little shady practices here and there throughout your games? You're ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lucky this is my absolute favorite fighting game series.
The only playing audience you'll have left if you continue these shady tactics for too long will be the few players like me that can't like any fighting game as much as they like Tekken, an audience that will also scatter as the series inevitably gets changed to not be in some players' favors. You better ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hope no other game comes out that pulls your die hard audience away, because at this point the only thing Tekken has going for it is the fact that there's no direct competitor to Tekken's "3D-martial arts-fighter" right now. The moment any game comes out that feels enough like Tekken but doesn't practice any of the shady ass ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that bamco does, this series will die, and that's just sad.
Wake the ♥♥♥♥ up bamco, you're going to ruin something great that your dev team has made, and possibly in the end kill off a staple franchise of yours, all for the sake of getting a few quick dollars seemingly out of desperation.
Be completely up front about what you're selling, and respect the loyal player-base that keeps you afloat. If you can't manage that then I truly fear for the future of the franchise, which is really sad to think considering how big Tekken 7 was able to make the scene, even with all of its hurdles. It saddens me to think about whatever the ♥♥♥♥ your shady ♥♥♥♥ will do to Tekken 9.

this game is great i love everything about it, the soundtrack, the aesthetic, the gameplay, the setting, it's all perfect. i'm super excited for more of the game, i look forward to being able to access the other areas that are currently blocked off.

dont support bamco's current decisions with this game with your money right now, maybe when they start listening to the playerbase. the other negative reviews and the videos below sum up the situation pretty well. im only here because it's tekken and it's actively played, but actually taking this game seriously right now is not fun, which is unfortunate because it's suppose to be a competitive game. im waiting for EVO Japan and subsequent high-profile tournaments to prove how over-tuned certain characters are and the expected nerfs following that before i can enjoy learning the game competitively.

tbh i played this just enough to unlock the israeli women cuz i think IDF women are bad ass and i probably have a thing for them.
game's a very slow grind, keeping my dailies streak going to maximize the points i was getting started to feel like a chore, please read the other reviews to see what other, more experienced players thought of the grind.
personally i didn't touch PvP if i could avoid it (as long as my options of dailies allowed), because the latency was too high for USA West.
PvE is strictly okay, but if you're like me and choose to grind the same PvE missions, it will get repetitive quickly because the enemy AI spawn positions are exactly the same every time, their pathing might have even been identical each time, not sure. If they just added a little bit of randomization to the PvE in the style of something like Left 4 Dead, it would make the PvE much more replayable.
I think I've had my fill of the game, I'll keep an eye on it to see if they improve it, but as of right now it's honestly not worth the drive space, its only reason for me to reinstall it is its gimmick of being the only third person arcadey shooter i've played with so many different nationalities of armed forces to try out.

i am a solo casual player who really enjoyed KoTOR I and II, so playing this feels like a spin off kotor that lets me see the long term effects of the events from those games. if you liked Knights of The Old Republic I and/or II, definitely give this a try

really great game that seems made for smash melee fans, accessible but hard to master.

as a casual player of cpt falcon in melee, i've come to really enjoy ashani who is a clear "evolution" of cpt falcon, complete with her own sort of falcon punch. but while each character seems to be clearly inspired by at least a corresponding archetype in smash, they have key differences to some specials and normals that basically provide a refreshing remix of beloved playstyles.

plus it's got really great rollback netcode that lets players around the world enjoy matches together!

honestly the game is really stale right now. every character has really powerful gimmicks that you have to be ready for at all times and the general design encourages everyone to throw out as many moves in the round as possible (at times). the game is not very accessible unless you use a good handful of youtube tutorials to help you catch up. also because ever character is powerful, it never feels significant to win anymore, like "wow my thing that was probably going to work magically worked".

sorry this is just rambles and my current mood on the game, but i wouldnt recommend this game to a new player right now, i'll change/remove when necessary

Edit (oct/19/20): nothing's changed, but I'd like to mention that my "Tekken itch" is still there, and thus i come back to this torturous experience..... i can't remember the last time i ended a session and thought "i had a fun time", it's always "why am i still itching for this game?".

usually i'm itching for the movement and basic poke game of Tekken, but i am instead often met with matches consisting of little-to-no movement and tons of what i would call "pop quiz gameplay", where a player has found an obscure feature of a character to spam over and over regardless of results. it's a kind of play that benefits heavily from the massive amount of "knowledge gates" in this game, requiring a large amount of practice and essentially "homework".

when i'm losing to someone "lacking effort" and it then requires me to put in tenfold effort to counter, i'm usually just so disengaged with the match and thus unmotivated to provide that effort, that i just instead quit playing for the time being until my Tekken itch strikes again...

i've resorted mostly to playing casuals against friends where we won't resort to gimmicking each other....

i really hope i can enjoy the game more with Season 4... I'll probably update this after some time with it. but honestly, part of me's looking for a new game

[edit 01/01/21] starting to think my new years resolution should be "stop playing tekken 7". at this rate im convinced the game's design is, while heavily enticing under the guise of "being tekken", ultimately not for me. it's really sad because i loved tekken, but i've slowly come to hate it more and more.

this time i'm uninstalling and seeing how long it will take me to want to play again. i'll update this when i install again.

what a waste of time

[edit 03/12/2021] i said i'd update when i installed again so here i am. installed to play with a friend, i'll maybe learn a couple more characters, dont know yet.

[edit 05/06/2021] fun with friends but what isn't? but even still, every time i end up wishing 7 was different. if 8 feels like 7: Two..... zzz

[edit 08/19/2022] the recent 5.0 patch has a lot of very welcome balance changes, so far it looks like the best patch the game has had. however i still can't recommend this fighting game to new players versus other available fighting games on steam. but if you like tekken it's all we've got on steam right now

Max Payne multiplayer with more flair and manual aim.
The Source engine feeling of aim is nice and familiar.
Pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fun, great for short bursts of gameplay.
