Polina is an ordinary belarusian girl, quiet and modest, about 26 years old, living in the village of Krasnoe in the territory of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic. In the period 1937-1938, there were mass raids on the village by NKVD detachments.

In one of the inspections of the commissariat staff, Polina was almost sexually assaulted, but after snatching a knife from an NKVD officer she retained her dignity. Fortunately, thanks to one person, the problem was resolved very quickly and all sides dispersed without any problems. However, Polina has scars on her hand and face near her eye. It will always remain in her memory.

The man who actually saved her life was Fyodor. He is a pilot who serves in the Soviet Air Force. He participated in the Winter War (1939-1940), flew the I-16. After their "unusual" meeting, love was born between them, and in April 1940 they got married. Although they were strongly attached to each other and loved each other, Fyodor Woskresenkiy had to leave too often on "special" missions.

At that time, Polina Woskresenskaya was doing household chores and taking care of the cattle. She often thinks about her husband and writes a letter almost every two days a week. After a while, Polina receives a letter from Fyodor that he is becoming an IL-2 pilot.
