This is the stupidest game ever. I can't get past the second step in the tutorial. It says "we need 8 planes, click the factory and order 8 planes built" So I do and then it says "Why are you building 8, We only need 4". so I cancel it and tell it to build 4 planes and it says "We need 8 planes, 4 is not enough"

Seriously? Screw you!

Best Dang $0.99 I ever spent. The game has a few minor bugs and graphical glitches, but it makes up for it in pure fun. This game is ever changing with elements from all sorts of games.

If I had to describe it, it is:

God of War
meets
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
meets
Frogger
meets
1942
meets
Just about any game you can imagine
meets
a actual butt-load of fun

This game is great.... so much so, that the featured a quote from my review on the store page.

That review can be found at the link or below. http://www.gamersdailynews.com/article-3013-Achron-Review-PC.html
(note... logged 30+ hours oustide of steam)

First, there was 2D. Then 3D. We even have 2.5D (3D models in a 2D world). Could it get any better? Achron thinks so, and they have added a new dimension to gaming. The 4th Dimension.... Time.Achron - Adding the fourth dimension to real-time strategies

That’s right, Achron is the first game that allows you play in the past, present, and future.... simultaneously. Self-described as a "meta-time strategy", Achron is essentially a mix of a Real Time Strategy game and a Stephen Hawking book. Now I know that sounds complicated, but surprisingly you pick up on the gameplay and strategy rather quickly.

Achron: Time Travel

Let’s be honest. Nothing I say about this game will be understood, until you first understand the time travel mechanics in the game. Like most RTS games you have the same basic controls. Unlike other RTSs, the bottom of your screen is filled with a time line and an energy meter. The time line allows you to see when a skirmish is taking place. Any changes that you make to the time line in the past require Chrono-energy. The bigger the change, the more energy required. This keeps things balanced by keeping people from exercising God-like power, and encourages good strategizing in the present.

When changes are made in the past, a time ripple will pass by and you will see the battle shift on the timeline before your eyes. But be careful that you don’t move units into an occupied location in the past. The result is what the developer calls "chronofragging", where only the strong units survive (though with substantial damage)

Achron Single Player

The single player campaign tells the story of the human race. As they explore space, they are faced with an enemy that seems to be unstoppable. That is, until scientists stumble on technology that allows you to not only teleport units spatially, but also chronoport them through time. Equipped with this newfound technology, it is your job as an Achron (someone who can see the whole timeline and make changes to the past) to lead your Marines to victory against an enemy who seeks to destroy you.

When I started playing the SP campaign, I have to admit, gameplay felt incredibly slow. I am primarily an FPS gamer and the reduction in pace tested my patience. That said, I fully understand the reasoning for the initially slow gameplay. Hazardous Software is introducing an entirely new concept to games, and this slow introduction was necessary to prevent a steep learning curve.

All in all, the SP campaign was solid. At times, I had the feeling that I couldn’t lose because of my time manipulation abilities, but the developers compensated for this by making your allies self-centered and self-preserving.

I would venture to say that it is necessary for everyone who tries this game to play an hour or so in the SP campaign to familiarize yourself with time manipulation and tactics.

Achron requires careful thought and time line tracking

Achron Multiplayer

Starcraft, move over. You finally have some competition in the RTS genre. After familiarizing myself with the 4th dimension, it was time to play some multiplayer. Everyone knows that multiplayer is what makes or breaks an RTS game, and Hazardous Software has delivered a winner.

Starting out on a multiplayer map, the only learning curve that you start with is learning the new names of some traditional units you have in all RTS games (like the resource collecting unit, building to research new technologies, etc). Within 45 minutes, I had it nailed down.

When I felt like I had enough of an army built up, I proceeded to attack my opponents. Boy was I wrong. My enemy had massive forces built up and proceeded to destroy me. In most RTS games, the match would have been over quickly. But don’t forget, time is on our side. Before it was too late, I chronoported my forces back in time, and stopped them from attacking an enemy that was too powerful. Laughter ensued as I heard my friend on team speak shout "What the? Your guys are disappearing!?!"

The only logical response was for my opponent to go back in time as well. Which I responded to by moved into the future. The rest of the match was cat and mouse until squad by squad, my death became unavoidable.

Hanging on to my last 10 units, I ran for my life, back and forth through time. Upon going back in time, I noticed that I had about double the units. Excited, but seeing my inevitable demise, I pushed for one final assault. As I began to attack, I noticed different characters disappearing suddenly. Then it all became clear to me!!!! The units that I thought were extra were actually the same ones that I already had! They were disappearing because I moved them into the past. I had become a victim of a TIME PARADOX!

Achron Final Thoughts

Achron is a game that will keep you begging for more. This is sure to become a LAN favorite across the globe. Plenty of thought, plenty of laughs, plenty of head scratching as players disappear and reappear before your eyes.

This game is a must buy for any fan of the RTS genre, anyone intrigued by time travel, and everyone with a keyboard.

Stop lopping off heads on Dead Island Review. Quit hacking terminals in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Don’t pass out waiting on Half Life 2 episode 3. Yes these games are amazing, but if you only play Triple A titles, then you are sure to miss out on what I am calling the most fun game that I have played this year, Wasteland Angel.Wasteland Angel - weaponized cars? Alright!

Wasteland Angel is the first release for game developer Octane Games, and what a heck of a way to come out of the gate. This game has everything that it you need to make an awesome game: guns, cars, apocalypse, huge bosses, power ups, and most importantly…..FUN.

Now some of you may remember reading the preview for this game a couple months ago. To be perfectly honest, after writing that, I stopped playing this game. The slew of big name games coming out this year grabbed my attention and I was sucked in. But upon the full release of Wasteland Angel, I went back to see what had changed. Immediately, my memory was jogged and I have been playing this game non-stop.

Wasteland Angel Story

After World War 3, the world fell into chaos. Most everyone had died in the war, but those who lived had to fight for survival. Some survivors formed gangs, some joined an evil militia, and were mutated into grotesque creatures by the excess radiation in the world. All of these people had one goal. To kidnap, kill, and steal supplies from the innocent people who huddled together in small towns and villages in the post-war wasteland. This is where you come into play. You take the role of Angel; a butt kicking heroine who is in search of a lost friend. She is driving across the country in heavily armored and weaponized vehicle that she lovingly calls ♥♥♥♥♥. As she makes her way across the country and stops at these towns to search for her friend, Angel takes a moment to help the townspeople out and fight off the never ending swarm of villainous thieves that try to steal what they have both day and night.

Wasteland Angel Gameplay

This game is the best driving shooter since Twisted Metal 2. The top down view lets you see what is coming from every direction. At the beginning of every level, waves of enemies will set out to destroy you and the city. As you fight, you can earn weapon power ups and armor upgrades to help you in your fight.

Your trusty ride ♥♥♥♥♥ starts out with twin mounted machine guns. As you earn upgrades you increase your rate of fire, shoot incendiary ammo, and even go as far as to mount an additional machine gun and rocket launcher to the car. All of these upgrades will make the game total carnage on the easiest setting, but on harder difficulties they are absolutely necessary to survive.

The enemies will have different vehicles as you make your way across the country. On the West Coast, the baddies drive dune buggies and vans. But as you make your way to Middle America you will start to see rednecks driving tractors and school buses. Even though the vehicles look different, you have 3 basic classes of enemies.

Killers have only one purpose; to shoot and kill you. These enemies are fast and have mounted guns of their own. Slavers are bigger vehicles (large vans and school buses) that have no weapons with which to harm you. But don’t take them for granted. These guys will pull up to the city walls and start to load up the innocent towns folk. If you don’t kill these guys quick they will drive off with all of your people. One type of enemy the game refers to a “Duals”. I prefer to call them sneaky buggers. Duals can perform either of the tasks of the first two types of enemies. They are mounted with heavier weapons than the killers, but they also can kidnap the people. These vehicles should be watched closely.

Every section of America that you stop at consists of 4 levels. The first two levels are basically the same. In both, you must defend the town. The only real difference I can see is that the first level is in the daylight and the second takes place at night. The third level is always the boss fight. Bosses are massive vehicles with a ridiculous amount of health and hugely overpowered weapons. To beat these guys will take more than just your guns. It will take super weapons.

Super weapons are limited in number, and there is a huge variety of these to pick up. From land mines to napalm, from EMPs to Atom bombs, these weapons will be your best defence against the never ending hoard of enemies and powerful bosses.

The fourth and final level of every section takes a different course. Instead of being from a top down view point like the other levels, the “Bonus level” puts you in the driver seat of ♥♥♥♥♥. This is probably my favorite type of level on the game. And with the constantly changing enemies, and gameplay types, this game never gets old.

Wasteland Angel Improvements

When I played the preview copy of Wasteland Angel, I thought I was playing the final version of the game. This left me with a little disappointment because of a couple bugs in the initial release. But coming back and playing the full release of the game, it seems that Octane Games has stepped it up.

There used to be several glitches in the game; including one that prevented you from firing your weapons on some of the later levels of the game. The new release seems to have all of these glitches fixed. It is so nice to see a game be released in good form these days with all of the kinks ironed out before you play.

There also seems to be some graphical improvement. I played both the Preview and the full game on the exact same PC. The full game looks so much smoother and the lighting effects look 10 times better. The only setting that the developer added was a shader setting. But I am sure that they must have done something behind the scenes to make this game look so much better.

Final Thoughts

I feel sorry for people who look down on indie games. I have played a lot of big name titles this year from big developers, and a lot of independent releases from small companies. Nine times out of ten, the big companies are motivated by profits and will release games that are full of bugs and glitches knowing full well that you will buy them because of their name. But indie developers don’t get a second chance from people, so when they put out a game, most of the time it is high quality. Of all the games I have played this year, some have been intense, some have been thrilling, and some have been down right crap. But of all of them, Wasteland Angel is pure unadulterated fun. I guess we forget sometimes that fun is what gaming is all about.

Reasonably priced at $9.99, and 20% off for a limited time, you can’t go wrong with this purchase. Hope you guys get to have the fun that I did with this game.

Word of Warning!!!! Do NOT buy Deadlight... It is the most BS game with the most BS story I have ever played.

You play as an idiot who is surviving a zombie apocalypse in Seattle in 1986. Why an idiot? Because you walk past everything helpful.
1) You see a first aid kit and say "I have found these before" but if you are full health you don't pick it up for later.
2) You are in a warehouse with people with guns trying to kill you and when you knock one out, you leave his gun on the floor! (I tried to pick it up... wouldn't let you)
3) You get to the end of the game and and zombies are rushing you, but you have time to stop and make a 3 minute speech to the girl you are with.... Then you put her on a boat and you stay behind to die!
4) You spend the whole game looking for your wife and daughter and at the very end, you remember that you killed them so that they wouldn't have to be zombies.

That is just 4 examples of how stupid you are! There were hundreds... and according to a video online, if you play through a second time, the alternate ending is REALLY Stupid! In a flash back it shows that all the friends that you had die in the game, were actually victims of you! That you are a serial killer! And one of the friends you killed, you did it while he was the pilot flying in a helicopter with you!

SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!

If you like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, you will love this game. Hilariously funny and totally different than anything you have ever played. Imagine Extreme Bobsled Bowling with a Monty Python Cardboard Cutout story.

Plus it is only $2.50 this weekend. You can't go wrong with that.
