Late game content is utterly lacking and the game punishes you for choosing certain traits at the creation of your race as the only victory condition is controlling 40% of space. How is a pacifist species supposed to conquer? Well the devs didn't think about that, it's your problem!

The tech system has little to no impact beyond how you outfit your ships for combat, and diplomacy is a joke because the AI will refuse anything shy of a complete ripoff for your civilization.
