Exhilarating, unique, fulfilling, visceral
Among the greatest games that I have ever played

I initially dismissed this game but having given it a second try, years later, I find myself completely swayed to the opposite disposition. This is a really great metroidvania. Even as good or better -in some ways- than Ori.

My gripes are thus:
1) it takes a rEALLy long time for the ball to get rolling. Like, hours. It shouldn't, but it does. And until then, there are a lot of unclear next steps and weird dead ends.
2) It FEELS like having a guide is really important. It shouldn't be. I don't like using walkthroughs, personally- it sort of spoils things even if only slightly. But it felt like I was wasting too much time trying to figure out what to do next...
3) The music is kinda bland and repetitive and excessively melancholy

That being said, this game excels at a lot. It has great worldbuilding, mechanics, character design. The level design is tight AF, as in clearly meticulously designed and playtested and calibrated for joyful platforming AND platforming often even accounts for the player [re]visiting at different progression points. This is a must for any metroidvania and I don't know of a game that has done it as well as HK masterfully does.

Wario meets Boogerman

This game is a testament to video games as an art form. It's not without its weak points but throughout the game I felt engaged and excited for whatever was to come to come next. It is among the best games I've ever played.

This game has numerous progress-halting bugs. Although the developers are working to fix them, it is -as of today- possible to play this game normally (quite beyond the refund time limit too) in such a way that you wont be able to progress any further at some point. That is not "ready for release" and I do not recommend anyone buy this for a few months until everything is ironed out.

A very fast-paced game that challenges you to think on your toes. Punishment is swift, but (good) quick decision making feels rewarding and satisfying. If any one criticism so far... maybe the variety of environment incl. enemies could be better.
