Free, easy to get in, and RNG hates me.

Graphics were never that beautiful, and AI is still awful but I still love this game.

One thing that makes Warband great is the combat that feels very engaging and dynamic. A lot of things matter: your combat skills, your weapon's damage, you weapon's damage type, speed of your weapon, armor value of that portion of your enemy's armor, enemie's armor type, and wether the enemy has a shield or tries to block with a weapon. Riding around on a horse killing the enemy's backline of archers is one of most satisfying things to do.

Warband is also blessed with a great modding community. For example there are mods for Star Wars, Warhammer Fantasy, and Roman Empire that completely change the game while other mods add more content on top of what is already a great game.
